North Korea really did it. This is just silly... As much as I enjoy reading the Sony leaks that is a disgrace too, really sad that this has happened. I wonder if some bigger entity than Sony with bigger dick is going to step up now they have succesfully blackmailed a company into not releasing a movie.

I read that the movie theaters were worried about being sued if an actual terrorist attack happened, after being warned. Not worth damaging your whole company over 1 movie. Only explanation I can think of.

something like 7/10 of the largest movie theater operators said they wouldn't show the movie after NK issued the threat, so Sony's "decision" to cancel it wasn't much of a decision at all.

North Korea paid some hackers to fly to some other Asian country and hack Sony pictures cuz they were mad that Sony was releasing a film that depicted Dear Leader being killed in some fashion.

Hacks threaten Sony employees if movie is released. Hacks threaten theaters with terrorist attacks if movies play.

Theaters cancel showings of the film. Sony cancels release temporarily.

hmmm, which to believe....

nk has operatives in all major cities ready to pull off theater attacks at the drop of an encrypted text message (hmmm, 10 ppl per theater / 911 fear...carry the 1....yeah, lots of cities)

sony goes direct to dvd and drums up publicity for a crappy movie

THIS IS A TOUGH ONE!

Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business.
You can't mock the great leader and not expect some sort of retaliation, what were they expecting?

Seems like a pretty good spot for South Park to step in and do something.

North Korea should be trolling by offering to extradite the criminal hackers to the US if they extradite criminal Rogen and Franco to North Korea in exchange

Just now saw a tv commercial for the movie. Guess they couldn't pull them all and save some money.

So that clown is now telling us what movies we can see in our own country? Where's SEAL Team 6?

Am I the only one who wonders how America would react if North Korea released a movie about 2 idiots plotting to kill Obama?

I doubt you'd get much reaction at all outside of maybe an eyeroll and a mention by the WH Press Secretary. Maybe a SNL skit and a few Jon Stewart jokes too, and some right-wing radio guys might fill a morning with it.

Now if Russia or China did it, then I could see some causeheads getting worked up a little. But NK's propaganda has been so over-the-top absurd for so long most people tune it out anymore.

Just ran it by the wife for one sample reaction...

Me: You hear they cancelled The Interview?

Wife: I heard on the radio coming home. It looked stupid anyway.

Me: Now I wonder if North Korea is going to cancel their movie where they assassinate Obama.

Wife: I didn't even know they were making one. I didn't even know they made movies outside of state-run propaganda type things.

Me: Yeah that's what it is I think, state-made. They supposedly kill Obama in it.

...

Wife: Are you watching this? I want to catch up on The Voice.

It would probably end up being mocked at some awards show and nominated for a razzie. It wouldn't surprise me if most people would actually want to watch it.

Kazakhstan had CRAZY sales of Borat, even after it was banned! Yeah, I'm sure it would be ultra bad, college-community theatre dropout bad on every, filming, acting, staging, plot, props, all of it. All of that would be humorous because it'd be just such a feeble attempt to make USA#1 look bad.

Team America came out a decade ago and no one cared.

If this thread goes in the direction of "But...Puppets!" I won't even know where to start.
