Couple weeks ago I had two poos where there was a lot of blood in there and I've had really weird stool habits for the past many years (2 poos or less a week). Went to doctor, they're doing a colonscopy and another camera down my throat tomorrow checking for things..

Anyway, I have to drink an entire gallon of this mixture of medicine + water + terrible flavorings. One 8oz glass every 20min, I've been able to drink two in 2 hours. This stuff is terribbbbbbbble. Obviously I need to finish a lot of it or else they can't do the precedure tomorrow, but I'm damn near ready to throat up after sipping, chugging, using a straw, everything!

Any advice from anyone whose had these before?

My advice for bowling: stay relaxed or it could be a long, drawn-out, painful process.

My friend had to go in for one of these. He said that the doctor told him that he most likely had hemmoroids, but that there was a small chance he could have crohn's disease (sp?). Not really to sure with the actual procedure, but I remember he told me that the stuff he had to drink the night before was god-awful. And he said that he was ****ting all night. So, yea...

Wow, sorry to hear that man. 2nd hand info here. Make sure the medicine is ICE cold, plug your nose and drink with a straw. Cranberry juice chaser after every glass is supposed to help some. Good luck tomorrow.

Wait they knock you out for it? When I was a kid they did stomach version and they didn't knock me out. It was pretty ****ing traumatizing.

With the phospho-soda, there's not much you can do, but it helped me to have a several vodka shots to get in the habit of slamming it every 1/2 hour. It'll loosen you up, and it's clear, so not much of a chance to f* up the test. You'll crap it out anyway, but you don't want to take the chance of having to redo the test, so stay away from solids and colored liquids. Unfortunately, I've had this procedure every year since age 19 (37 now) due to ulcerative colitis, but the best part (like was mentioned earlier) was counting back from 100 (personal best 95). You'll never know anything happened when you wake up.

The prep is like 1000% worse than the procedure itself, which is a total piece of cake.

The worst part of the "your stomach so bad you need a colonoscopy" process is giving a fecal sample.

Serious question here: did you look or did you just assume you'd gotten a sufficient sample?

Serious answer: it would've been pretty damn hard to spoon my own crap into a little cup if I hadn't been looking. Also let's remember that if you're making nice, healthy, firm bowel movements, you probably aren't getting a colonoscopy. So that was fun.

Drinking the stuff is the worse part of the ordeal. (I thought I was the only one who figured out that using a straw seems to make it go down easier.) Drink as much as you can, you don’t really have to drink it all – once it seems like you are about “cleaned out” you should be good to go, but the more you can do the better for the doctor.

The procedure itself is nothing - you are half out of it at the time. Doctor will probably let you watch what is going on on a tv monitor. But, really you will be doped up and not really care. Just try to relax and you will be fine.

The prep is the worst of it. You should have asked yesterday and I would have told you to eat very light so that you clear everything out with just half the juice.

At this point. just chug it down and keep chugging. It's very apparent when you've had enough. As others have said, the procedure is a piece of cake because you will not remember a thing.

The whole thing is more hype than anything. The doc will ask you if you want to watch the procedure on the screen. I said no so they gave me more aenesthesia and after what seemed like 2 minutes i wioke up and it was over. No pain no discomfort no anything.

On a related note(should I start a thread somewhere?):

I have to poop like every single time I eat, anything that is even remotely filling and sometimes regardless. If I eat till I'm full it is 100% of the time. It is extremely annoying, and I hate to go places far away to eat cause I know it's gonna hit me on the way home a lot of the times. I have always pooped a lot, but not like it is now(maybe it is the same but it seems a bit worse)...

Anyone know what I can do? Is there medicine I could take for the 2x/month I go out knowing I can't get home or to a bathroom instead of having to suffer those times?

go back in time and get a better prep. I took one that was like one 12 oz drink. It was super horrible, but not that hard to down 12 oz.

Agree the prep is the worst part. Also recommend your loved one films you as you are waking up. You will seem cognizent but will have no memory of what is going on. Could be funny.

You'll never look at a garden hose the same way again. And your poop will be white for a couple of days if it's the barium **** you have to go through, gl.

Next time ask for the pills. Sodium Phosphate pills >>>>> Fleets Phospho Soda > GoLytely.

They won't give sodium phosphate to old people because it could kill them, but for young people it's the easiest way to go. Enjoy the Demerol and start planning your first meal.

The prep before is reallllllly annoying and a generally awful experience. The procedure itself is nothing. I got put under for it (not standard?)... no effect at all afterwards.
