It's not just about getting fit. It would be for the adrenaline of it. And of course when I set my mind on something I have to do it obsessively - so, I can't just decide to get fit, I have to make it my job and do it for 40 hours a week. But this is a bad idea, since I really don't think I could keep it up long term.
I found a good comment on Youtube:
"How did bike messengers ever come to be seen as these countercultural figures when all they do is deliver packages for corporations? Bike Messenger is like the original outsourced, no benefit occupation. The opportunity to wear fun clothes doesn't make up for it."
Anyway I think I've found the solution: I have a friend who works nearby who told me he often goes cycling for an hour or two after. So I'm going to join him and hopefully make it a regular thing.
Also, rather than wasting the weekends on poker forums and railing, if I really want to get fit, I could try spending the day cycling round the city instead. But the difference would be I could go where I wanted, stop when I wanted, while still earning easy money in the week.
