Probably true! I definitely romanticise the idea of being a courier. But yeah, it's a lot of work for little money. From what I remember 10 hour days are standard, it's lonely, and there's a lot of sitting around until you get established too.

Hmmm, I'm sure a pushbike is a lot better at getting through traffic and cutting corners.

Maybe the answer is to keep my overpaid underworked job, but cycle a heck of a lot in the evenings and at weekends.
LOL. LJ, you must be leveling me or something.

Keep your job and join a gym. Go to the gym after work and lose the weight. This seems painfully obvious.

Speaking of obvious: bike courier companies typically hire people who are, you know, fit and in shape. Not fatties who want to lose a couple of pounds. You see, most companies want a package to get to the recipient quickly--which is the main reason they don't hire overweight guys who take an hour to bike 15 blocks.

Ask the patronising lawyers you work for to replace your desk chair with an exerbike. Problem solved.

I'm a pretty fast cyclist, anyways. Maybe because I never stop at red lights unless absolutely necessary.

No interest in joining a gym, just doesn't appeal. I said I wanted adrenaline and excitement!!!!

I agree.

I too sit at a desk all day surfing poker forums, it doesn't bore me though and beats the hell out of real work.

Edit to add: Doesn't it rain all the time in London?

What is your (notional) job?

Sure it rains in London, but spring is coming...

F**k the haters jimm I say do it. I keep thinking about taking the courier job and I don't do it for all these logical reasons but I know I'm gonna regret it.

Couriers are like rock stars, chicks will dig you. After you lose the 70 pounds anyway.

Also this will make your blog way more interesting.

How has no one suggested quitting your desk job to become an Omaha pro?

Okay, think a little farther than 3 months from now. Say you last 2 years, then what? You're 31 and in the exact same situation you're in now, unqualified and bouncing from temp job to temp job. You might not even stay 2 years once the winter weather hits. This romanced idea of a job might be a great quick fix, but at some point you have to think about the long term.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't quit your job until you have another one firmly lined up.
