The worst interview, in terms of stress, was when I got gang interviewed by six people. It consisted of the human resources manager, the department manager, and the department supervisors.

Brag here, but I was one of about four thousand who applied for the job, one of about three hundred plus who got to take a test, one of about forty-five who got interviewed, and I was one of seven who got hired.

Pretty nice job, too, but it was governmental, Clinton came in office, and I got downsized. Screw that. I was fired.

My first interview, and it was a phone call I got from a small film company from craigslist.

Manager: "Hi, we looked over your resume, and its pretty intereseting"

Me: "Okay" ....

Silence (this is the part where I was waiting for a question to be asked)
More silence....

Me: "So where are you guys located?"

Manager: "Astoria"

Me: "Oh I dont know where that is"

Manager: "Oh"

Silence....

Silence......

Me: "Well thanks for calling, but I think this would conflict with my school sched"

soooo ****ing akward

just had a phone interview for a trading position at a regional/big bank with some HR person. I wasn't sure what to say when I had to explain to her what a market maker was.

Just out of uni I went for a job in the City where my Dad worked. He took me out to lunch before the interview. Nice meal, glass of wine and a pep talk.

I walked in to the interview and shook the guys hand and introduced myself. He looked at me sharply and asked if I'd been drinking.

We got down to the interview and he asked me when I last played football. Odd question I think. I said I hadn't played in years.

He said, strange your CV says its one of your hobbies. Oh **** I forgot I put that down. Silence for a couple of seconds and all I can come back with is 'yeah, I meant watching it on TV'.

Don't know if it is horrible because I got the job, but I got called about a job many years ago which I was over-qualified for... It was okay as I was doing some consulting at the time and wanted something permanent. I went in and met with the manager who I would be working for and who had tracked me down. Like I said I was way over-qualified for the job, but it was fine as I wanted to get my foot in. I never have a problem proving myself and advancing quickly, so it was a good opportunity. All of that went well, and I interviewed several of the managers who would be working for me, then I got to interview with the Director of my division.

The interview was insane. I was very knowledgable in my field, and probably had as much or more experience than anyone working at the company I was interviewing with.. yet this guy was asking me questions about concepts and theories that I had literally never heard of. I almost started freaking out as I had no idea what this guy was talking about. The guy was basically talking science fiction mixed with corporate business speak. I thought for sure I was screwed, but I struggled through and just essentially agreed/placated him. I ended up getting hired that day.

Shortly thereafter I found out the Director was full of crap and just made this stuff up, or read about it without any understanding or context. He essentially was a BS artist who BSed people across the board. After I discovered that it became easy to manage, because he had no idea what we did or how we did it so we could tell him anything.

I would say though, that is the only time in a job interview where I was a little bit shaken about my position or understanding, or my confidence that I was one of the most qualified people for the job.

My greatest weakness: I put a lot of pressure on myself, and that causes me to get frustrated when I'm working on something and it's not cooperating.

See guys, it's simple. Be honest, but not too honest.
I was interviewing for jobs about 7 months ago (i even got the one i wanted). I was asked this question at all three interviews i went to and i answered the same each time: greatest weakness = punctuality. Its a totally honest answer for me and the interview just moved right along after that. Its possible that I just got good marks on other stuff that allowed me to overcome that answer. I got 2/3 job offers (the other one was AutoCad intensive and I had never used it before).
