I'm having the same problem as Chris JM :-( Is there really no alternative other than the 'new' version? It is pretty much unplayable on my ancient device because of lag. Sorry to my fellow group 2Aers...

I wonder if they made the game crash on purpose to force people to update the app. My version was 2+ years old.
After trying everything, I was forced to download the new version of the game. They changed the animation/timing on the tiles, so it's taking some getting used to. I could do without all the bells and whistles, too - it's so over the top. I shouldnt have to click through 20 screens to see the score/round summary after a game, nor do I need the Street Fighter-like introduction when someone challenges me. And they still haven't done anything new with stats in 2+ years since they first introduced them. Wow.
It's happening to me too. This has happened before to me many times, and the issue has always resolved itself. However, this is the second-longest it has gone on for me. It seemed to resolve itself last night briefly, so I have hope. I won't upgrade for a few more days at least.
Zynga posted on May 20 that they are working on the crashing issue. See the comment they made to the post from May 4 congratulating Lyndsey on winning the tournament:
YES! I commented to Zynga about the tiles. I feel that the "wiggle" excessively. Zynga responded and claimed they didn't make any changes to the tiles???
I finally deleted SWF, couldn't deal with the lag anymore. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if it ever gets fixed. Until then if anyone wants to play me on ruzzle my new name there is timm846.

In particular, if playing on an iPad, they suggest downloading and using the iPhone version until the issue is resolved.
I'm doing just this, but it's really terrible. Tons of lag, and for some mysterious reason, ancient games from the past year are all showing up as unplayed, so I have to scroll through literally dozens of games that I've actually already played just to get to my active games. Sorry again to my group this season---I'm way behind.
I downloaded the new update ("Word Streak with Friends"), and while it seemed good enough to begin with, all of a sudden it became horribly laggy after a while. Suspiciously, it started right after I tried a "tournament" - the tournament rounds were incredibly laggy, and this then spilled over into my regular games (I had zero lag before joining the tournament).
What's funny is that Zynga apparently CANNOT program a game which doesn't lag when running any kind of "daily challenge" or "tournament" mode (even if you're not actively playing it), yet other companies do so with ease. I uninstalled and restored Classic SWF.
Babstoyfish and SeanBoren, the creators are taking a month long hiatus to figure things out, but said to Join the Ruzzle league at www.Ruzzleleague.com if you want a continued league experience. Go to the 2+2 scramble league Facebook page for a more detailed answer.

Hello SWF players! I am Eli. 2 years ago I was in the SWF league but had to quit because I didn't have enough time at that point. I am very interested in joining back to the league. I love the competitive feeling of being in the league. Thank you for reading! Farewell!
PS. My SWF ID is elijah98s
i'm guessing a lot of people here don't play in tournament mode, but just wondering if anyone does and has seen the thing where you finish a round, and your opponent's clock repeatedly resets to ~15 seconds and then winds back down. at first i thought this was people using the vision PU but that can only be used once and i've seen people do it three or four times. generally people who are weak players who then wildly overperform their average score. is this a hack or something?
Ya, I found that a lot with tournaments, Ive played several where they clock does that for the opponent. I also found that weak players (or seemingly weak as defined by their stats) would drop ridiculous scores on difficult boards, almost impossible scores for someone with their stats.
Anyhow, it seems SwF is dead these days, cant find anyone I used to play against on there anymore so I got Ruzzle and applied to be in their league.
If anyone would like to play against me my ruzzle SN is: Noah chrome
I was a middling 7th tier player on SwF averaging about 106 wpr.
I found the "random opponent" sets me up with people of the same actual level, not skill level so there isnt any challenge right now playing against others who are rank 1-5 on there.
I don't play all that much anymore, but Nazleen and Swipefingers still play at the very least. And welcome to Ruzzle! I'm in league under Words72 in group 8 of 23.
Hello, I'm sure this question gets asked all the time so sorry about that, but how do I rejoin the league?
I played in group 7 a few years back. My name back then was NigelTuffnel11. I've since changed my name to NigelGoesTo11, and just made that name update on the swfleague site.
I tried rejoining a few months ago, and checked the "automatically sign me up for next season" box. But then I didn't do anything else to follow up, and didn't see any notifications/challenges in the app, so figured I must've missed a step.
...It's also possible I've had the "automatically sign me up" box checked ever since I first signed up to the league (I REALLY hope that's not the case, since that would be so rude to not uncheck that box during my break), but I'm 99% sure when I logged in a few months ago, that's when I rechecked the automatic sign up box.
