I got hit with this last night right after I had played a bingo. OTTOMANS played over the second O which I had placed on the TW spot. Luckily for me mostly low-scoring tiles so it was only worth 101 points.

I have the suspicion that this guy has started to cheat but no conclusive evidence yet. We have finished 4 games so far and after beating him in the first three he gave me a whooping in the fourth one making some semi-obscure long words that combined with a lot of letters already placed on the board. I am still not sure because: 1) He's a very smart guy IRL so he's capable of getting better at WWF fast and 2) He still plays some dumb 10-pt words in between the high scoring ones.

This might be the case for me. The guy who is cheating against me has jokingly accused me of cheating before. But also, I suspect a lot of them are just too dumb to realize how obvious it is that they're cheating.

playing a game aorn with an honor system timer. 1 min per move, but you can strategize while waiting obv.

I hate the 1 min timer. It makes you do some really dumb stuff. I have 2 bingoes to his 0, and I'm only up 30 due to getting a 3-letter 32 (HOT, actually) on my last move.

i totally agree, some of my freinds pretty much openly cheat and get off on it, i would never ever play anyone who cheated, and would never do it myself, i think words is a very fun game and i just dont see the enjoyment in having a program tell you what spots to put letters in, just doesnt seem fun at all to me

this could be it but imo if i thought someone was cheating i would just stop playing the game, refuse to play them anymore and find a more honest person to play with, i would sooner not play the cheating person than to waste my time going back and for with cheat words...

While I certainly am not encouraging my opponents to cheat, if, say, one out of your ten opponents is doing it, I would think it would be beneficial to keep playing them to glean some new words.

Either he's cheating or he has the world's lamest superpower.
Sometimes people with less than stellar verbal skills can surprise you. I play with a guy who is a native Chinese speaker with very basic English skills and he is a strong player.

I jokingly called him out during our first game when he played "JEUX" through a TL/TW for like 90 points and he explained that he always notes when someone plays a word like that on him, he tries letter combos constantly, especially when there is a big bonus square open, and he made sure to familiarize himself with the 2/3 letter words, common Q/Z/J words, etc.

I've actually watched him play other people a bit while dropping some crazy words on them and I know he doesn't cheat. If you had a conversation with him and then played WWF with him you'd swear he did though.

Now, most idiots who cheat do it like that guy's coworker(and somebody did to me), go from "playing awful and losing by 200" to "still playing awful but winning by 200" because they make a 5+ letter word every turn.

Against a serious halfway decent player who was motivated(i.e. playing for money), it would be very difficult to know if they are cheating because they'd be smart enough not to play truly ridiculous words. Or at least save them for important points, one chick I played against was dropping like obscure 6 letter science terms for like 25 points every turn.

and yeah studying at this game will get you results - a big vocabulary is a help, but knowing a bunch of 5 and 6 letter words with common letters won't get you very far, but knowing 4 and 5 letter words with X, Z, K, Q, and J can be really helpful

I don't play on FB because I want to maintain a shred of internet anonymity, but I have some FB friends who do, and I just saw a notification a couple of days ago that said "650". I was thinking "Wow!" until I read that it was combined for both players.

The Everything Scrabble book has lots of great word lists, obviously you can get most of them online too: all the 2/3-letter words, all the 4-letter XJZ words and the 4/5-letter Qs, all the Q without U words, the no-vowel words, the 67%+ vowel words, and the "bingo stems" (6-letter combos that make bingos when combined with almost any 7th letter; I only managed to memorize the AEINST and AEIRST lists but there are a bunch more). Learning a good chunk of these will get you very, very far even with a mediocre vocabulary.

Pleasantly surprised to find out that phat is an accepted word, but it probably doesn't mean what I think it means.

I've started declining rematches against most woman and certain men. It becomes a chore to put any effort into a game where "ah", "sat" and "there" are the norm.

On the other hand against a 2p2er I'm playing I've learned at least 4 or 5 new words, not all of them fancy, but definitely words that help you out in boxed in strategy games. "kir", "aah", "moa" and "phut" come to mind.

Beat a friend by 230, he rematched and is up 72 after dropping 4 straight big words including a 50 and 40... I'm suspicious

He got up 100, then started talking ****... I told him it seemed odd then played a word and got the z j and was already holding the q... Had no vowels so waited and set up best I could.... I'm up 8 with a u left and no where to play, strategy error as I shoulda played house instead of feet and I could have dumped the e easily

Ugh, I have two blanks and two S's, the rest 1 pt. letters and no good plays. Too much of a good thing imo. So I swapped the 3 letters and got the same crap.

I literally had same issue yesterday tried to play SALINES but E wouldn't play with letter it attached to so tried SALINAS and it played for a bingo.

....I'm in a game in which I am at 450 with only a full rack left and no vowels and just got the Z and J and just played the Q, and no where to maximize or even play the Z.

Just started playing this a week ago and hit my best single word yet: 105 for ACQUIT with TL on the Q and TW on the T. Felt good. I think I beat that before with a mutliword play, but definitely the best single word yet.

I got 3 100+ words in my first 3 or 4 games and had a 565 game. Haven't busted 80 pt. word or 500 in like 50 games since.

Clearly they're using the same Stars newbie run good algorithm.
