I have been learning new words lately but I don't think my speed has improved in months. Not sure if I can change that.

Also do any of the old guys remember bigannie? She recently challenged me and I remember her being very even with me the last time we played last summer. I beat her by a fair amount and that's probably only because I'm in the league and have motivation to improve whereas she is probably beating up on her friends all day.

Yeah Annie should join the league obv. The skill gap between us is huge now due to the league whereas it was pretty close a few months ago.

177 is my record on SWF with no freezes. On Ruzzle it is 176, so I'm pretty consistent I guess! lol With 2 freezes I think my high is 230.

Whoops spoke too soon. Bigannie is good. Won round 1 by like 40 words but that was probably freeze variance. Barely won the next two rounds. I'll ask her to join the league.

Maybe she's gotten better again. In our games she seemed like maybe a group 6er or 7er, but that was a month or so ago. She kept challenging me and I think she won like one round out of 21 or so.

Whatever happened to the daily challenges? That only happened once right? They should bring them back especially the juiciest board ever so that bacamarte can give it a go.

You are absolutely right! In the beginning I could only win random matches and my friends crushed me all the time. If I got more than 1500 points in a game, I was already satisfied. It took me months of practice in order to have progress and improve my results.

Yeah, I didn't have the opportunity to play them unfortunately...I hope they come up with something similar to that in the future

I keep wondering the same thing Greg! Also, can't believe they chose me to participate in the selection period (when there were 12 players competing for the Top 8 spots) instead of much better players like Word_Wizz, Flaming Fox and other true pros. I remember I got seriously crushed by everyone there haha

Why all the fuss about word count? Quality over quantity IMO.

I think WPR is a really good indicator of skill though (and possibly future potential, since speed is probably hardest to improve), but sure you need a combination of both to be really good.
Better players tend to get more words, IMO.
Not to mention that a lot of small words lead to bigger words, so if you crank out a bunch of small words, say you get ARM - well that can lead to ARMET, ARMY, ARMIES, ARMO(U)R, INARM, DISARM, etc, if you know what to look for - so I really think there's a huge benefit to trying to get as many words as possible, it'll help you build to larger words and not to mention that you can just power through someone else that gets better words by sheer quantity.

Also, it's a lot easier of a metric to play by - rounds have HUGE variance, while you can pretty consistently get similar WPR numbers on different boards - so you'll notice when you go above your WPR while having a big score might actually not be that big of a deal if it was loaded round. Similarly, we have access to the total number of words possible, so we can kind of see where we're at with that (i.e. I usually get ~50-60% of the words) but we have no idea what the total number of points is so we can't compare it there either.

I'll be travelling to the states (from Canada) from Jan.3-13th. I will have an international plan with data so I will be able to play next season but I doubt I will have much time to play so my next season opponents will have to wait a week before I get going on S11.

Also, how do the split leagues work for winners? I am in 10A, and there is a 10B. do we play a 1 game championship to crown an overall group 10 winner?

I only ask because I have a shot at winning 10A. Yup, I am gloating a bit, sue me.

Is there a way to cheat in SWF? Twice I've faced someone who I've blown out in the first round (where they are obv slower, but also significantly worse at finding high scoring words than I am) only to have them get literally every single high value word, including ones like no one ever gets, while still only getting 70-75 words. Just seems odd is all

There is. You can pause the game and use one of those word-finder sites. You just enter in the letters and it gives you a list of every word possible.

I thought you could only play Scramble over WiFi. Not sure if it matters what kind of plan you have. I may be wrong though.

Exactly, there's one game to determine the overall winner for each group.

You might consider just sitting out next season. I'm not entirely sure but if you aren't able to play for a whole week then you might time out on the games where your opponents initially challenge you.

For groups with two sections, the two winners play a one game playoff. Whoever has the higher winning percentage gets to go second.

I play pretty fast, usually have at least 50% of my games done in the 1st 4-5 days of league, depending on opponents play rate.

Usually end up waiting for the last week or so for ppl to start their games vs me.

I will be able to play afternoon/evening of the 13th, can't see it being an issue.
