This isn't a particularly clever observation and you're ignoring the context. So no.

I may use "djebel" because I remember it from this thread but I'd never expect my opponent to believe I'm not cheating. In this case I would use the word in a live Scrabble game but probably just pass on it and use something else in WWF.
This is such a bizarre concept to me, i mean what, how is that even fun

if ur opponent thinks ur cheating and ur not ... oh well, who cares

there is a certain type of scrabble player that insists that you know how to define the words you play. in fact, i think most scrabble players i've ever played with in an informal setting believe this.

if im at my comp when i'm playing i tend to look up words that get played. my vocab is so bad i figure i should try to improve it.

my point is just that it wouldn't be hard to just learn definitions along with the words as they are played

Uhh well thats like twice as much memorization as learning just the word itself. To make myself a better scrabble (or wwf) player I really see no point to learning the definitions of the words. Most of the new scrabble words I learn I would never use in any other context even if I knew the definition, especially because so many have non-English origins or are just alternate spellings.

Now if I wanted to improve my vocabulary of words I might actually use I'd start reading more scholarly articles or memorizing GRE vocab words, etc

basically what cardsharkk said - i memorized the 3 letter words a while back, but i can't think of an opportunity to use a new one. if someone wants to learn vocabulary through scrabble, they're welcome to do so, but eventually it just gets in the way of the words.

ok i misspoke/misled/am an idiot.

i'm not saying i know the definitions of 2 and 3 letter words but when i encounter DJIN (A Muslim genie) or GHAZI (A Muslim fighter against non-Muslims) i get curious. that being said, i just had to look up the second one...

i also am not looking to improve my speaking vocabulary. i try to avoid talking to people anyway =)

all i'm really saying is eventually my curiosity gets the best of me and i look up weird words like QAT (tobacco like substance) whereas (in scanning a current game) i have much less desire to know what BREN means (but just looking it up, it's a lightweight machine gun...)

and to contextualize my weirdness...i actually have a GRE vocab book i peruse so yea, i'm a minority...

hmm, dont some people play wwf or scrabble with word generators as some kind of enhanced version of the game. Similar to how some people play correspondence chess.

That whole "family" of words is good to know, basically they're all variations of genie/genies. There's djin, djins, djinn, djinns, djinni, djinny, jin, jins, jinn, jinns, jinni, and jinnee. It's especially fun to start with "jin" and add on a letter every turn to piss off your opponent.

I think play Qi probably 1.1 times (counting going the other way) per game. Add in qat and you have about 85% of my Q plays. It's very rare that I get to make a Qu word.

I was pretty sure my sister had started cheating in WWF with me. Needing to prove it to myself, I looked at her browser history on her laptop yesterday (lets ignore the ethical issue of that) and sure enough there was a link to one of the cheat sites that had an exact replica of the board of the game we had been playing. So now that I know for sure, the question is what's the best way to bust her for cheating? Ask her to define the absurd words she has been using? Just ask her if she's cheating and then keep asking everyday until she finally admits it? Call her bluff when she denies it by offering to bet her on it?

i would just stop playing with her and think less of her in general - there's no point in confronting her, someone who's going to cheat is also going to lie, and plus you were checking her browser history, which isn't exactly kosher either.

Who really cares? Its your sister and you were probably whooping on her too badly. Relax in your games vs her, maybe even let her win one, complement her on how much better she's gotten.

It's your blood dude, and she obviously has a need to get to your level / be better than you, so if you care about her just let her? Why the need to bust her?

Why let up? how does that help her? If she "needs" to get to his level maybe she should do it sans cheating....

....I never understand the whole let them win, or play them easy approach in any aspect of life.

That whole post just tilts me

Can you not play two blanks in the same word? Everytime I play a blank it clears all he other letters I've put down (including another blank). I have a bingo in 2 games right now but I can't put the tiles down to spell it. Is this normal?
