Is it cheating to look a the WWF 3, 4 and 5 letter words pages? I've told my opponents I do that sometimes.

I look at the 2 letter words occasionally to save myself the trouble of placing them all on the board and seeing if they stick, sometimes I'll even have a page like that open on my computer for reference.

Looking up words like that isn't too bad imo, but if you're using things like anagramers, or worse, the things that let you plug in letters on a virtual board and tell you your highest scoring play, you are a POS.

Yeah those are definitely cheating imo.

I think you're pushing it when you move into 4 and 5 letter territory. Two and three letter word lists are fine because WWF allows you to try the different word combos until you hit one that works. Also after you've reviewed the two letter words a few times the most useful ones become committed to memory anyway.

Using any word making software is obviously bad. I imagine it would be easily detectable though. As soon as one of my friends triple words "jacquard" on me the jig is up.

i think it's cheating, yeah. i would allow any opponent to look at the 2 letter list, but past that you've just got to know the right letters or sit there guessing.

random aside, anybody ever used WWF to get girls?

that sounds weird, but i can totally see playing in line or something or while on public transport and it sparking a conversation.

who needs digits when you can secure a username!!!

Looking up words during the game I think is unfair but using it to memorize words is fine...

Grunch, I feel like hitting on anyone on the bus/subway is sketch/unfair since it's a confined space and very awkward if the chick isn't interested. I've yet to see any non-creepy guy flirt with a girl on the T here. Having said that, I don't hate the idea.

I think looking at a list of 2/3/4/5 letter words while you're playing is 100% cheating, even if you could find them all T&E-ing for a while

I am undecided how I feel about looking at the lists on your off time.

Agree with the 1st part, lol @ the 2nd part, scrabble players study words all the time.

yeah but this isn't scrabble and in scrabble your edge came from having an insane vocabulary... not so much in wwf

I know most people think its fine but i still kinda feel conflicted about it.

I mean I don't do it, but wouldn't care if my friends did. I did look up all the 2/3 letter Q/X/Z words though.

I started a game with an random opponent and they haven't used a word over 3 letters yet. I'm pretty sure I'm beating up on a 6 year old. If anyone wants to play I'm Seany_J24, I'm not great but I have my moments.

Yeah, that's pretty much like saying you're conflicted about whether taking notes on your opponents is ethical in poker.

Yeti and I consistently play competitive games where I stage enormous comebacks with <15 letters left. I am the Tim Tebow of WWF.

I was down by like 30 before I played "ENJOYS", my last three moves were like 140 points of word.

Edit: lol I only know "GHAZI" is a word because someone who was clearly cheating played it against me. Playing against a cheater is tremendously valuable, you learn like all the Q and Z words.

ya i just remembered ENJOYS, but it did seem pretty close the whole way through before that. 30 is nothing really. BIDE was pretty risky/dumb obv.

(i enjoy discussing games in this thread no one else can see)

I've been meaning to bring this up for a while: At what point should it be deemed safe to start inserting words into your playing vocabulary that were gained only from reviewing your own play or playing against cheaters?

At this point I know what a freaking "djebel" is, but damned if I'm ever going to naturally write it or speak it.

If you remembered it from a previous game without having to look it up, use it. That's what learning from experience is all about. Some people play Scrabble against bots just to learn new words.
Scramble with Friends (SWF) - Containment /Strat Thread Quote

Yeah, I think once you're pulling the word from your memory it's fair game regardless of where you learned it. My concern would be how others view my play.

I may use "djebel" because I remember it from this thread but I'd never expect my opponent to believe I'm not cheating. In this case I would use the word in a live Scrabble game but probably just pass on it and use something else in WWF.
