In short: yes, a part of the world is going mad. More accurately though, some part of it has always been mad. You get anti-racism on the brain, you see racism everywhere, even where it doesn't exist. You get feminism on the brain, you see patriarchal domination and "rape culutre" everywhere. You get "[race x, capitalism, aliens, Satan] is bad" on the brain, you see [race x, capitalism, aliens, Satan] doing bad things everywhere.

It's not a new phenomenon. It's just natural confirmation bias + social pressure + totalitarian instincts (also not a new phenomenon). The current polite prejudice is that all people/cultures/ethnicities/genders have comparable talents (hilariously not true), that differences in their success or their happiness are therefore due to prejudice/discrimation/subtle aggressions (also hilariously not true), and that this is the most important issue of our time (also hilariously not true) for which it's ok to step on other freedoms to fix.

These prejudices are just as stupid as the "women are stupid" or "black people are bad" prejudices of days past.

The only thing we don't do today is laugh at and shout these losers down. The trouble is that people actually partly believe the narrative about racism and sexism being endemic and subtle because this ridiculous notion is widely taught in academia and liberal arts degrees who go on to form a big part of the opinion-making political, media and academic class.
These people are no different to the racists and sexists who believed that blacks and women were worse, merely because it was the social prejudice and because they were taught it. They have no thoughts of their own. However they do seriously believe what they were taught (that oppression is subtle and everywhere and wrong) and thus what was once laughed at filters down into public policy and even prosecutions.

As for what to do about it, mock anyone who claims racism or sexism is a major social problem in 2016 (it isn't, at least not in Western countries and cultures - it certainly is in most other places and cultures).

unbelievable. surely the 'well known actress' could have been shown the footage and accepted she was mistaken. so many people have seen this footage and its still went to trial; the actress, the arresting officers, the prosecution and probably more. worlds gone ****ing mad, absolutely ludicrous to go to trial. thankfully there was enough cctv footage for the jurors to make a correct and sensible decision.
