Craig Mack - Flava In Ya Ear
7.3/10 (your song btw)

Good beat. I like most all rap, and this doesn't have any of the east coast anger or the west coast reliance on the bass. It's looking for a little humor in itself, which it does a subtle job of. Chorus could be a little more than it is, overall I do like his voice and how he moves in and out of the chorus. Seems like an early 90 rap song (no idea if it is, and won't look for the sake of reviewing it)

Along the same genre, this one is for Dids.

I love this one, and am so glad I saw Dids post it whenever he did in the lc thread.

I'm a sucker for combining electric guitar with rappish-type music, and this was really good to me. I'll give it an 8/10.

--------------------

Clutch - Binge and Purge. (Rock)

Based on everything else I listen to, I really shouldn't like this song. But I do.

4/10
It grew on me as it progressed but I felt the pace was a little unnatural. I liked the use of dynamic range though.

Can't really place the genre, but it was okay. I liked her use of the background vocals/singing as part of the beat. Video was weird. Overall... 6/10

Genre-confusion reminds me a bit of this song:

Cibelle - Green Grass (Tom Waits Cover)

Thats because it's pop music. No specific genre just a mix of multiple genres.

A solid 7.5/10. I was pleasantly surprised. It sounds like something that Nina Simone would sing and she is probably my favorite female vocalist.

Re: Rank the song in front of yours

2/10 I'm not feeling that at all. Plus the name is a fraud. You cant name your band destroyer then proceed to make music like that. You name your band destroyer you better be destroying ****. Not making slow hippie music. And I don't care if it's supposed to be ironic.

They should be making music like this.

he has some interesting gurgling sounds and there's either a backing vocalist or some nice effects/variation that make his voice sound like an alien baby. but these aren't really qualities i am looking for in music per se: **** tier.

now, try this on for size.

Re: Rank the song in front of yours

I don't particularly like the song I posted neither I was just trying to make a point about the other bands name (Destroyer).

I actually really like that. 8.5/10 It's real chill and dark but beautiful at the same time. Almost like peering inside of a depressed persons soul that really wants to be happy. I could def see it being mixed in with some good techno/trance beats. Drop some molly and chill out.

Shutdown-Through My Eyes (90's Brooklyn Youth Crew Band) The singer was like 14 at the time so he has some puberty issues.

you should check out the album, it's all around pretty excellent. here's a nice pitchfork review:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14718-king-night/

aside from the synths, samples, static, and beats, a lot of their song have vocals that are really interesting with lots of effects and a song or two are like gangster rap almost, but mixed with their mystery blend of electronica.

rap-like song by Salem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeHtzs91Xm0

edit: i'd actually just call that rap, but compare it to my previous post and see their range as a group
