Hello OOT.
I'll cut to the chase.
I work as a mailman in the UK and today i decided to quit my job.
I'm 23 years old and this was pretty much my only source of income. I am backed online to play MTTs and i am a winner but with the stake i am on atm i can only play $33 MTTs and below (ovbiously losing half my profit).
My job was fairly straight forward. I had to go in at 9am every morning and "tie-down" the mail which was in the frame for me. Put that mail into bags, then go out and deliver it. Some days can be brutal when the weather is rough but that was never really a problem for me. The reason i decided to quit was that i was constantly being shafted by other workers/managers. Quite often when i would go in my frame would often be half full (it was another workers job to have my frame ready for me, some days it is tough as there is alot of mail to sort, but it is still not in my job description) I have no problem with sorting my own mail if i was warned in advance and hence would come in earlier and recieve overtime pay...
Here is a picture of a frame for anyone who doesn't know what they look like...
So say i am not told that my frame is not up and i come in at 9am for work. I have to sort the leftover mail which has a chain reaction on the rest of my job for the day - i don't have time to do other stuff which builds up and up and leaves me with a huge workload towards the end of the week.
I have been complaining to the managers for 9 months (my duration of work there) about these problems and they always promise change, but it never comes.
I was pretty confident about my decision until i spoke with my mother about it and she was really really pissed off, insisting that i had made a mistake.
So i bring this to OOT. Did i make the right decision? Was i right to stand up for myself and walk away? Is getting shafted just part of having a job and i should just bite the bullet and get on with it?
I told my boss today that i quit, but i have not yet handed in my notice.
Please ask any questions...just kinda threw this post together so there is probably some stuff missing.
Thank you for your time.
