Soah,

what El D said. I know people who do that, but its entirely because they want lemonade the way they like it (which is way different than how it comes from the fountain), not cuz they are trying to save a couple bucks.

This point is postively brillaint, Villian. Where'd you come up with this stellar analysis?

I think you might wish to cross-post this in the stingiest things you've ever seen thread. Doing so might have the added benefit of diluting the El D/Custer derail about delivery at high-end restaurants.

roommate and i freshmen year took so much **** from the dining hall

all the silverware, bowls, plates, trays, two chairs (we literally would just walk out of the dining hall with chairs)

we tried to take a table and some of the wall decor but apparently they bolted everything down

most employers know about this anyways. alcohol is the easiest thing to make money off of, and it also keeps them coming back. my wife is actually a manager of a restaurant, and really good friends with the owner. The way they look at it, it's just part of being in the business.

Why not just hire servers who wont steal from you? If giving away free beer is profitable for the business, there are better ways to do that than hiring people to do it underhand

Our company fired an employee for repeatedly stealing food from the company cafeteria. I very seriously doubt we would have done so just for soda, but who knows?

How is what I'm doing stingier than not ever buying a drink in the first place and instead using the tiny water cups?
I actually often prefer using the Panera plastic cups at home to my real glasses.

Also, I don't drink very often but I remember every bar that doesn't charge me for soda(when I go out with friends) places that charge for 1, but not refills. And the stingy mother****ing bar that charges me $2 for every refill.

So giving out free sodas is probably +EV to regular customers, or when the bill is big. Free alcohol I'd say is 100% a no.

Nick,

You're talking about a cup like this, right?

I guess there actually are people who need signs like this...

You do realize you're just flat-out stealing, right?

At fast food places and the movie theatre I used to take refillable soda cups out of the garbage and poke a hole in it and ask for a refill. Inevitably it would leak, sometimes onto the staffer, I'd be dumbfounded and shocked, and then they'd fill up a new cup for you. Wow I used to be cool. We're talking 20 years ago here.

Not that that is the same thing, but reminded me of that story of the guy who threw his soda at the cashier or something at a fast food place.

Who was that?

That guy that met Ron Burgundy.

Sounds like rationalizing to me or a poor sample size. Most employers know there are employees that either steal money, product or give it away, but I don't think that's their preference.

It may not be. But that's like saying murder is more criminal than rape; indeed, both are sufficiently stingy to be post-worthy in that thread. How about just buying a darn soda if you're thirsty?

p.s. Custer must be destroyed.

Do you always keep an empty Panera cup in your car for any impromptu Panera stops? Do you sneak it in or are you ballsy like those people that just walk out of a Walmart carrying a Cuisinart or whatever right out in the open?

How is this even a question?

You ask the cashier for water, which is free, but instead you take a soft drink, which is not.

Where's the confusion?

My brother has done this at Qdoba when we're out to dinner and it infuriates me.

Any chance we can get pics of the retrieval?

Ah, so they actually give you soda with a couple of cubes to chill it, rather than a cup of ice with a few ounces of soda?
