Back in college (~11 years ago), I was a pretty good swimmer. I couldn't quite make all-american, but I wasn't that far off. At that time my best times in a decent number of events would medal in the olympics if I were a chick. Now my best times from then would qualify, but I would not likely make the women's final in anything except the shortest sprints. Even if you gave me a year to train I wouldn't be able to beat the best women swimmers in most things. After 6 months they'd still be laughing at me.

But sprints would be my best shot. A 50 (~24 sec) or 100 (~53 sec) would be about it.

If his reactions are still reasonably good, he should be able to win in a 50 yard footrace. It's just so short. whoever gets the jump will have a huge edge. He has an even better shot if you can get Mr. Bevalaqua to be the official starter.

To Noah's credit, I think he's talking more about stuff like basketball than saying he could out-run a sprinter, and using that as justification for saying that on average, guys are just way better athletes than girls, which is true.

...but given that both of these girls work out regularly, I think your buddy's going to get smoked OP, especially by the army chick. Have you seen any of them run before? The only way I think he doesn't get smoked is if neither of the girls are remotely athletic and they're the type of people who can't shoot a basketball without looking completely clueless in the process. If they have any athletic skill whatsoever I don't see them losing to an out-of-shape dude who hasn't run at full speed in 5 years.

If anything saves your buddy, it's the distance. 100 yards and I don't think he has a chance. At 50, he has a chance to fool his body into not paying attention for long enough to cross the finish line before his lungs catch up with him.

At any distance over 50m you instantly lose your bet. With the short distance I'd say you only have 30-40% of winning. In other words, a bad bet.
