Re: Prop Bet: Win an Olympic Medal at the 2012 games
I spent about 5 straight years playing NHL 94, and got really really really ****ing good. like I never met anybody who could beat me 3/7. I don't think I'll ever be as good at anything as I was at that game. then I started playing online, and found a couple Finnish people and this guy in Montreal who was better than me.
the lesson is that there's always somebody better than you. unless you're Michael Phelps obv.

There was a famous texas tycoon who tried this I forget his name. I think he tried to become a coxswain.

Re: Prop Bet: Win an Olympic Medal at the 2012 games
The only sport you could have any conceivable shot in is one that allows for luckboxing. I would probably say archery because with training, and a lifetime supplies of lucky charms, it could maybe happen. I still think it would be the greatest upset in the history of sports.

re: rowing / coxswain
borderline impossible for an average guy to become an olympic rower in 4 years. if you were 6'4-6'5 or something then not completely impossible. fairly serious collegiate rower here but its hard for me to tell how good one could get with an elite coach behind your back for four years.
coxswain in reality would be possible in theory not impossible. reality: the US rowing men's olympic coach picks the 2-3 coxswains that goto the olympics. you have to be in the right place at the right time, know your **** (which really only comes from experience and you wouldn't get that in four years), and have earned the trust of your rowers. in theory wouldn't be impossible to do a good enough job to not **** up a victory if you practiced/studied for four years, but you're never getting chosen to go

What little horse jumping I've seen the riders look like really well dressed normal sized people with dorky hats.

Re: Prop Bet: Win an Olympic Medal at the 2012 games
I saw this super old dude on a horse just walking around in some dirt the other day and assumed he was a referee of some sort going over the course. Then I hear the judges commenting on what a sick routine he was having and how he is some equestrian legend. Looked pretty easy to me. Maybe this would be the best bet.

Re: Prop Bet: Win an Olympic Medal at the 2012 games
Just a slight reality check, but if equestrian sports were easy I seriously doubt they'd give Olympic medals for it.
Interestingly enough though, I believe it's the only sport where women compete directly against men.

For ppl considering rowing, the Canadian 8 man rowing team is an average of 6'5 and 220 lbs or pure muscle.

At a certain point, it's all in the horse. Buy the best horse in the world, and you've got a chance with 4 years training.
** grunched to page 3. There is skill in maintaining your seat, and pacing the horse, but not beyond 4 years work.
