Re: Pictures that say 1000 words (some pretty disturbing)
Kinda funny that people are saying the Italy diet looks good. I actually had the exact opposite thought that I was surprised how much better the China diet looked than the Italy one considering I think of Italy as having great food. I mean where's the meat people? Seriously, I don't even understand how people eat meals without meat. I'll do it maybe once a week or so, but if I go more than a day without meat I'm ****ing starving.

How did having whatever your first account was banned work out for you?
If people are going to make vapid, meaningless statements about these pictures- I think it's only fair to ask that they explain what they're trying to say. If you're going to spout BS on the internet, be prepared to get called on it.

if you can't tell what the guy who said "persuit of greed" meant to say, i don't know how you got past elementary school.
i don't know what "BS spouting" you're talking about, you've only responded to people giving opinions or comments, they haven't stated any incorrect facts, they just haven't explained themselves enough to relieve your hardon.
more importantly, the types of comments you're replying to are mostly after-thoughts to the pictures and as such are probably given without much thought, because most people don't anticipate anyone being enough of an anal-retentive douchebag to try and dissect them.

Exactly, and this is dumb and shouldn't be excused. I'm sorry it makes your brain hurt to be asked to think critically- but discussing things is the point of a discussion board.

Re: Pictures that say 1000 words (some pretty disturbing)
half the posts on this board are given without much thought. there's a difference between thinking critically and needlessly analyzing comments that are beside the point (in this thread, the pictures themselves).
if someone standing next to me says "it's sure a nice day out today" and i don't think it's that nice of a day, i don't contradict them and ask them to explain precisely why they claim it's a nice day. i nod and smile and agree with them. this is because i'm a reasonably well-adjusted human being. maybe they don't teach that in the "northwest corner".

The military isn't just some big conspiracy to trick youths into going to Iraq/Afg. and it actually does provide some "young and less fortunate" people with a lot of opportunities. Thanks to the military I go to school full time, get my tuition paid for, and get paid the GI bill. I also got paid to learn a job that many people have to pay to go to school to learn, that I can do in a civilian environment. So basically I'm getting paid to go to school in both instances. There are certainly sacrifices that you have to make, and you are right about the treatment of wounded vets and there are other instances where soldiers aren't treated right. But I've met some good friends, had some fun experiences, and learned a lot about life/death from my time.

Good to remember that you can't "unsee" what you've seen.
There are some good photos and links in the Science and Stuff thread, including a gallery of photos after Hurricane Ike:
24 hours of air traffic around the world
Don't miss this amazing photo.

This thread is amazing, although some of the pics are quite sad/disturbing. One thing is for sure, I definitely appreciate my life and my family lot more.
