He had the opportunity, a very easy one to put into play, to make it about the person who committed the crime. Simple solution - walk away as soon as it's over, call the police or go to the nearest station (there was probably one within 1/4 mile given where this occurred), and file a report. Stay off Twitter and don't go on a berserk rant, and presto - he still has a job, no negative fallout, and material to work with on his show to last through the summer.
Instead, he made the idiotic choice to rant and rave in what was an obviously racist and offensive fashion. He now has to live with the consequences of that decision.
By the way, give me a break with your biased hyperbole. "Committed a crime". It's a woman who slapped him a couple of times. Boils down to misdemeanor simple assault. He's a grown man, I think he'll manage to survive the brutal injuries he suffered during this vicious attack which ranks up there with how bad I cut myself shaving this AM.
