I'm more a crumble girl myself rather than pie, possibly because it's easier and less fattening and also sweet pies aren't a big thing here like in the US. Meat pies on the other hand are very popular here. Having said that I am sure the best pie would outdo the best crumble in taste.

I waited to get down to a more manageable view, here we see the last quarter of her



I always like to compare a pie's flavor from the first day and then a few days later. The first slice I had (not pictured) was perfectly set. I had it for breakfast and the cinnamon and sugar on the very lightly buttered crust were perfect for morning time. The blueberries were all ripe, no under-ripe or smashed included in the filling, so we have the perfect balance of sweet with just a faint sour bite.



Two days later and we still have the perfect pie, the filling is perfect and I asked my friend to judge the aroma, he was speechless and could only drool.

Pie judging: post and describe a pie you made prior to Thursday July 20 and on July 20 an expert panel of judges will crown a champion pie.

Pie eating: And if you want a championship of your own, on Thursday July 20 we're going to be doing some pie eating.

Post what type of pie you intend to eat and a different expert panel (prob me) will determine its PEq (Pie Equivalent) score for contest purposes. And then we shall eat.

I'm thinking of eating like a dozen McDonald's pies.
Unfortunatley I can't compete until mid august, but this number seems low, at least for me. Check it with bobbo but I thing the line should be at 20.

Cut into my pluot pie today. Oat crumble is phenomenal and clearly the right choice, aesthetics be damned. Cardamom, allspice, ginger, and cinnamon as spices in the filling and crumble. Lemon balances the sweet nicely. Recipe is "plumble pie" from the Four and Twenty Blackbirds pie book I referenced earlier.

I will say I could pack a lot more fruit into this, recipe was a little skimpy in a standard 9" pie plate.

My friend got me those plates for Christmas because she knows me well. I thought she'd come over for pie today, but she didn't. I'm not sure there will be any left. But I think I have to make another one of these for her and coworkers.
