Doing some quick MFP math, looks like a whole blueberry pie is about 3,500 calories. So only eat half and you're good for the day.

Unless you're on a big cut.

It depends on what exactly you mean with diet compatible. You can make a pie with 500 ckal of crust + 500 ckal worth of filling. I like it. It is complete big pie with 12 servings. So you can easily fit one of such servings into your diet. But it will be clearly less sweet and less fatty than normal.

For example: you can take this one
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/12284/blackberry-pie-i/

Reduce the sugar for the filling to 1 tablespoon. Don't sprinkle the top with sugar. (Notice that you can't leave out the flour from the filling. You need something that is gonna to absorb all juice). And choose very carefully what you are gonna use for pie shell. You can find something so that the whole pie stays reasonable. I would also always put some semolina onto the bottom of the pie shell to prevent soaking.

If you like cheesy stuff, I make often a filling from fat reduced quark, egg, some semolina, baking powder and one vanilla sugar. To this you can also add some banana pieces or raisins for sweetness. But this one has few tricks while baking and cooling down.

Out of sweet American pies, my favorite is buttermilk pie or chess pie.

For fruit pies, i prefer cobbler. Nothing like a piping hot biscuit dough peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. Perfect finish to a bbq meal on a lazy summer day.

Re: OOT Pielebration

I have obtained pluots and apples. Crust is chilling in the fridge before rolling. It seems crumble/streusel is a popular topping for stone fruit, but will it help me win?

I'm confident that it won't. Since judging will be based on pics and description, not taste, you face a tough decision - deliciousness or fame.

Re: OOT Pielebration

I just got a pretty good crust decoration idea for one. This is why it's good to get stuff for multiple pies! Also, I have mini pie pans for extra crust opportunities.

Have I mentioned I love pie?

Pluot pie going in the oven. Went with the oat crumble topping. Still think it looks rather nice! Unfortunately a little late for good lighting.
