Du-Par's used to have absolutely incredible pie and now the new location isn't as good.

Judging from how things ITT have gone so far, we may be on the cusp of reaching PEAK OOT.

Also: Pie is delicious. Blueberries are just coming into season so I'm thinking a nice blueberry pie with some premium vanilla ice cream.

My favourite is probably key lime (or cream snicker snicker) but that could never win a pie contest. Strawberry rhubarb is an elite contender.

Oh shoot I just realized both strawberries and rhubarb are indigenous here. Is the real answer just whatever is local makes the best pie? Headasplode.gif

Yaya, a cake crust with an icing glaze. Cakes also have fruit filling between the layers sometimes. It's a cake ainec. Shame on this thread and you pie people co-opting cakes.

Falcon,

Cakes don't have crust. You love pie.

Plenty of claims itt of strawberry-rhubarb pie being GOAT, which makes as much sense as online examples of the earth being flat.

I want to encourage everyone in this thread who is thinking of buying to at least try making one. It doesn't have to be complicated. You don't even need a pan! You can do a free-form galette tart or simply fold it over the filling into a hand pie/tart.

For crust, follow the ratio of 3:2:1 flour:fat:cold water. You can mix by hand!

There are many filling recipes, but even some sliced apples with cinnamon and sugar and a tsp of flour to thicken the syrup is delightful and will please your soul.

The beauty of pies is their humble nature. Cakes are finicky. A pie can be made with just about anything. Make pies.

For many, this is a negative, one that people who like to bake don't understand.

Cakes are way easier to make than pies, so much easier to **** up a crust and have it come out terribly than slapping some buttercream on some cake rounds. Even boxed cake mixes are pretty good, but a tough, dense pie crust is the worst

Could you elaborate on the cream snicker snicker please? Snickers satisfies.

I was thinking more people may think a lack of a stand mixer or food processor would be an excuse not to make a pie.

I feel like I've never had a ****ty pie but ive had some ****ty cakes with bad icing and horrible texture and dry and generally not worth it at all. I'll deign to eat a store bought pie but most store bought cakes are hot garbage.

Maybe pies lend themselves better to mass production, but I feel like as far as home made pies vs cakes, it's cakes in a landslide

If they wanted to make pie they would have a mixer.

Josie, those pies look nice, but if there's ever an OOT Cake Off, you're winning that hands down.

I have to think that the "pie is so hard" contingent has never made a pie. My pies don't look like dbz's but they are easy and way better than any cakes. Occasionally I have overbaked a crust but in general pie is hard to mess up.

Or I suppose it's possible people haven't made homemade cakes and experienced the many ways that a cake can fail.

However, this thread inspired me. I'm making Shepard's Pie!

I disagree. I have problems with the bottom crust being undercooked (raw) or wet/soggy.

I've tried blind baking the bottom crust but I can never get it quite right, to my anal satisfaction anyway.

Anal satisfaction.

I think that's the term for shoving a whole pie in your ass.

Josie, glass pie pan. You can inspect your bottom while deciding whether to bake it longer.

In return, please teach me to make my cakes like yours.
