Not a big fan of Wintersun, but Kai Hahto's old band Rotten Sound used to be incredible. Murderworks and Exit are the albums to get.

Didn't like the latest album Cycles, probably because the new drummer Sami Latva wrote lots of material for that one.

Rotten Sound - Targets (from Murderworks)

Rotten Sound - Burden (from Exit)

Rotten Sound should do the trick at least for fan(s) of Pig Destroyer.

Not very modern, but Pestilence's fourth album Spheres was too jazzy/technical for my taste. Check it out.

Pestilence - Mind Reflections

You might also like Atheist (especially Elements) and maybe even Cynic.

Atheist - Air

Cynic - Veil Of Maya

Let's also throw in some fusion grind from Finland.

Cause For Effect - Metronomic

Cynic and Pestilence already released their comeback albums and Atheist should follow suit this fall.

Another old death metal band that has made a comeback (an a strong one) is Gorefest.

Gorefest - Rise To Ruin

Didn't like Keep Of Kalessin's older stuff that much, but the latest album Reptilian is an improvement from basic black metal. Enter the thrash/death riffing and I'm in.

Keep Of Kalessin - The Awakening

gonna have to disagree. That sounds like ass, but I've never liked Dimmu.

On a related note, I thought it was funny when the burger joint on Metalocalypse was called Dimmu Burger.

Another old band with strong comeback is Celtic Frost/Triptykon. Both albums are worth checking out especially if you liked the first three CF albums and hated Cold Lake.

Celtic Frost - Progeny

Triptykon - A Thousand Lies

One of my favourite modern grind bands was Nasum. Can't believe it's almost 6 years since Mieszko died.

Nasum - Particles

Nasum - The Deepest Hole

Don't remember if anyone mentioned Hate Eternal.

Hate Eternal - The Victorious Reign

Fans of Swedish death metal should check out Torture Division.

Three guys not from Kabul but from The Project Hate and a billion other Swedish bands.

Torture Division - Traumatic Inhuman Severance

Survivors Zero from Finland is for those who like melody in their metal.

Survivors Zero - Reclaim My Heritage

lol wtf

Snowy Shaw quit Therion a month ago, to be rumored to join Dimmu Borgir.
Yesterday he is officially the new bass/clean vocalist on Dimmu Borgir.

Then today he quits Dimmu and rejoins Therion, lol

Maybe ics vortex will rejoin again? lol

The new dimmu album released in europe few days ago, songs available on the intrawebs + youtube.

Sounds nothing like the old In Sorte Diaboli album, lots of orchestra stuff in this album, with some Snowy Shaw vocals in a few songs, that is nothing like Vortex from the past. Still not good as DCA, or BSD imo though.

Fav song personally is Chess with the Abyss

Please...no infighting between metalheads. For example, I personally never like Dimmu, but they're light years better than rap, country, boy bands, and pop. If someone likes them, don't give them $#!%.

I started listening to DM back in the early 90's, and BM in the last 5 or so years. I haven't found a lot of bands making good music now. Mostly, I'm discovering older bands that I didn't hear when they were producing good stuff. Several of these have appeared in other posts too.

Top shelf DM/BM (best album in parens for some): Morbid Angel (Blessed Are the Sick), Death (Human), Suffocation (Liege of Invaracity), Carcass (Necroticism), Cryptopsy (None so Vile), Angel Corpse (Exterminate), Burzum (Det Som Engang Var), Mayhem (De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas), Nile (Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka), Malevolent Creation (Retribution), Dissection (Storm of the Light's Bane), Obituary (The End Complete), Blut Aus Nord (Memoria Vestuta), Deathspell Omega (Kenose), Satyricon (The Shadowthrone), Cannibal Corpse (Tomb of the Mutilated), Nocturnus (The Key)

Good stuff, but a lower tier: Darkthrone (A Blaze in the Northern Sky), Melechech (Sphinx), Incantation (Onward to Golgotha), Watain (Sworn to the Dark), Bloodbath (Breeding Death), Bathory (Blood Fire Death), Bolt Thrower, The Crown (Deathrace King), Dying Fetus (Destroy the Opposition), Immolation (Here in After), Emperor (In the Nightside Eclipse), Exhumed (Slaughtercult), Gorguts, Meshuggah, Craft, Naglfar, Taake

There are some I dig because of great musicians that don't necessarily fit above: Atheist (Unquestionable Presence), Blotted Science, Cynic (Focus)

And for a change of pace, some slower stuff...but still heavy: Agalloch (Ashes Against the Grain), Wolves in the Throne Room, Ahab (The Call of the Wretched Sea), Catacombs (In the Depths of R'lyeh)

I was going to try and think of something to recommend but I'm not a fan of Black Metal sorry.

I know the new Full Blown Chaos is going to be coming out early next year. I'm looking forward to that.

ty for this, didn't really like their last album so much compared to everything they had made so far(which i loved) and this new stuff is pretty good.

love me some melodic deathmetal... in flames/dark tranquility/children of bodom are what i got started on and still kick tons of ass. always open to more

its funny i got into soilwork by seeing in flames trigger(?) video i think and them playing off a rumour that they were fighting IRL and had soilwork come in and try to crash or something... glad someone told me about that soilwork is great

mmmm metal
