Goose Island makes a really good root beer. The only place i remember seeing it is at Costco, but i'm sure they sell it elsewhere.

Does anyone else only enjoy root beer in the summer? Its one of those things that i wouldn't even think of unless its 80+ degrees outside.

A&W is the best. My friend's dad owned an A&W and as a kid I'd watch him make it from scratch in the basement of the place. Best root beer AINEC.

Mug is by far the worst.

Negative. Sprecher is good, but my vote goes to Henry Weinhard's:

Never did get my paws on any Hires = (. I had family in Maine search for it to no avail. Did some more internet searching in the past and it seemed that a "soda insider" in the NC area said there was only one distributor left in the US with the rights to Hires and they basically phased it out in favor of distributing the A+W type brands. Sucks.

Hires is available on amazon but it's expensive.

These guys have it, too.

Thanks. I looked on Amazon not too long ago and it wasn't available anywhere at the time. Time to place an order.

Beverage store located in southern Cali, and they ship throughout the country. They got Dogs 'N Suds, Henry Weinhard's, Sioux City Root Beer, Sprecher Root Beer (also available in kegs for $150), Abita Root Beer. Only one's I searched for. They don't have Hire's Root Beer, fwiw.

On my phone, so sorry if webpage doesn't get linked to...

I'm not some kind of root beer aficionado or anything (more of a cream soda guy), but Stewart's in a super cold bottle is pretty awesome.

IBC is the clear winner, with Stewart's taking second place.

This thread is a valuable resource, good bump. I'll be on the lookout for some of those bottles.

Had birch beer for the first time the other day, ordered it out of curiosity. Tasted like root beer with sarsaparilla mixed in, but was tasty.

Props to A&W. Walking home from work on a hot summer day my go to drink:
Get a 1 quart container of A&W and 1 large vanilla cone, skip the cone and put the ice cream in the container - equals 1 large root beer float.

A&W = no way.

Barq's root beer probably my fave. Just like the taste and not excessively, ludicrously foamy.

Stewart's and IBC too.

I'm a big IBC fan, but just had Sprecher for the first time the other day (probably the first soda I've had in ~2 years) and it was pretty damn good.

Have never heard of Sprecher.

Is it a regional brand or something? Maybe out west? I've never had In-n-Out burgers either.
