Maybe we just have different perspectives on strategy. I don't play online where you just play tight/aggressive and there's no evaluation of the other players and stuff. I think in live poker, you can use different strategies to win that can't be used online.

I only have limited experience and have never studied or did any reading on poker, so I'm sure my perspective will change over time as I get more exposure. I've only been playing a lil over 3 years and not 10-15 like most everyone here. I've only won/chopped in 4 of the approx 35 tournaments I've played, so I have a lot of improving to do.

The first half of tournaments is boaring as well, and against a lot of players you can just wait on a hand. I generally try to set up an image in the beginning depending on how the other players are playing. In a tournament I sit down and observe and then get a game plan together of what my image will be for that table, who will pick up on that image and how I'm going to take advantage of each player, I evaluate how the players are perceiving me and make adjustments and when they break the tables, I do it again. I observe the players and find out who will be calculating pot and implied odds so I know who I can try to represent hands against when I'm bluffing. I always have a game plan of how I will take down a hand if I don't hit. I play different ranges against different players; I might go into a hand knowing Im at 30% to win, but I know how to take advantage of the player and feel confident I'll win. I don't check fold too many hands because I don't get into a lot of hand Im not certain I will win. This could be a leak, I bluff A LOT and I occasionally get caught when I wasn't setting up to get caught and get into trouble lol

OOT HU sounds fun!

so why talk down to people that have been playing for 10+ years if you know nothing?

this seems to be a recurring theme with you.

Wasn't aware that I talked down to anyone. You were confused about what I was saying. I said something regarding cash games, then something regarding the tournament and you correlated both statements to cash games and tried to make fun of me.

And oh well if I want to have a strategy in tournaments. You think it's not necessary, but I think it's fun,I have a good time and make 💰. Why the need to try to rain on my parade?

Except you've said similar things about cash games. In one moment, saying noone pays attention, and then the next talking about image again.

You are confused, as usual.

Damning with faint praise.

What would even be in second place?

It's my understanding (I could be wrong) that it was approximately second place money. You think she's averaging better than that? Sure, the smaller stacks should have kicked some up to the larger stacks, but meh.

No, I'm way ahead. I'll have to add it up, but definitely ahead.

Aaah dang, I'm only up in tournaments about $2500.
Oh well, I'm getting better and I'm sure I'll make more in the future.

if you're cashing in 10% of your tournaments that's probably good

the problem is sample size

edit: and the dubious nature of how you log things

if you want to get actually good at tournaments, worry less about things like image, which doesn't matter when you're playing against people that are constantly busting, tables are constantly shifting, and you're usually playing for less than 20 BB's in most tournament structures, which are very rapid. Most of your decisions are binary, push/fold or call/fold. Live tournament blind structures are basically glorified bingo. study things like ICM and how to play on the bubble if you want to actually improve.

I wanted to add that my ROI for the year for cash+tournaments is 103%, so I think I'm having a good year???
What's a normal ROI for poker in 1/3 and small tournaments? Does it go up if you move up and play larger tournaments? I would think ROI would be higher for higher stakes cash, but lower for larger tournaments (160entrants vs 1000entrants).

with 1/3 the rake is so bad at most casinos you'd be doing good to break even. bad rake encourages a TAG playstyle. luckily players are bad so if you can average 5 bb's per 100 hands, you're doing great. that's not an unrealistic number.

but, that translates into like, 2-3$ an hour. not 60.

tournaments vary. good practice for live tournaments would be 45 man sit n go's with a rapid blind structure. if you can play 500-1000 of those and be up, you'll probably crush tournaments. Unfortunately online is so dead I'm not sure where you'd even find such a thing.

just let poker be a for fun thing. if it's fun for you creating this really elaborate image for yourself at the table and making hard reads on people, then who am i to argue.

They split the remaining payouts evenly 7 ways. It seems obvious that the second biggest stack (MLY) would make more than that on average.

I guess $312 is more than the buy in and if you're giving away more than a buy in in EV it's really hard to be a winning player

What is ROI in cash games?

Why? What is your logic behind those thoughts?

I once chopped a tourney 5 ways for $5K when first payed out $4700. Still one of my fondest poker memories.

5 left and I have a massive chip lead and everyone was eager to chop. I said no for a while and then just said, hey, if you want to chop, I'll take $5K and you guys can figure out the rest. No one seemed to notice.

Floor man and I had a good chuckle. I gave him the $300.
