Most people do stuff at work they consider stupid at some point but if you have explained why you don't think something is necessary in a polite way and your boss insists it still gets done you have no choice. Why does it bother you? You are getting paid regardless of what task you are given. If you think it's beneath you or a waste of your talents, bad luck. Either accept it or start looking for new work and realise that not all employers will be as sympathetic to your mental health issues as your current ones have been.

How many times do you guys need to see this kind of response before you just give up? You have far more patience with this idiot than I do.

I'm a ***** it's not in my nature to give up.

If I think something is unreasonable or a waste of time or wrong, I should make my argument, and if she disagrees I should just do what she is asking. It bothers me so much because this job is already so boring to me and I rarely get to do real engineering work, and from day one I noticed that my group is looked at by the other groups as a bunch of dummies or something. When I came in, my boss got no respect. After a few months I realized why. I just don't want to be a part of the suck ass group, so I was coming up with projects and stuff to make our group look important, and them my boss comes in and does some stupid **** again and makes us look dumb again.
A couple of weeks ago she made a dumbass decision(not suprizing), and had me execute it. I disagreed with it, but did what I was told, and guess what the **** happened? I got blamed for it and looked like an idiot.

This stuff happens, but there is also a lot of really good things about my job that I don't focus on. I always grab on to the few negative things and become consumed with those.

My work isn't exciting, but it's not stressful at all either, and I'm content with .y pay a d hours. I get to adjust my schedule almost however I like to fit my needs of wanting to go to the gym or therapy. My boss is completely on board with me leaving work early or for 3 hrs to go to therapy and doesn't make me use any vacation/sick time. She always ask how my appointments go and generally seems concerned. This job is the perfect place for me to be at this point in my life, and I'm going to stop focusing on the negatives and just let stuff go more. I also have the opportunity to work on some much needed interpersonal skills here.

If someone had changed the hoses, I imagine she'd be miffed that her partner claimed credit for her hours of "detective work."

Also, how would I handle my boss wanting me to do something stupid? Well, I'd tell him what I thought. If he wanted to go ahead with it anyway, I'd cheerfully do it.

MLYLT, you want your boss to be happy to work with you. Don't make it a chore. Don't do things resentfully, don't roll your eyes, don't be a pain.

Pleasing your boss, such that your boss says NICE things about you, can only help you.

I would never work for someone I would consider stupid/unfair/incompetent. The remainder follows from it. All my bosses did usually give good and sensible instructions, were very open to any improvement suggested by me and generally OK. I never behaved like you, I think I was never difficult despite my social incompetence, I followed the advice my bosses gave me often not only with direct task, but with social things.

I did pretty well with this strat. And if I ever ended-up in the position, where I seriously would consider my boss for incompetent, I would immediately start to look for a new job.

edit. I have to tell you not to feel bad about the pie. In my first ever cake I left out baking powder, because a tea spoon, that can't be important. Right? And I tried to bake it at 50 C° more than in a recipe to accelerate the process. You can imagine the result. I have improved since then to being pretty decent in the kitchen. You can do it too.

You shouldn't be pissed off. If you think you have a better idea than what she's asking you to do, you discuss it with her. If after that she still says "MLY it's best that you watch videos", then THAT'S WHAT YOU DO, because she's your boss, and that's how bosses work.

Let your boss and her bosses worry about her stupid decisions. Perhaps if she makes enough stupid decisions you'll get her job.

Remember you're paid to be there and do what you're asked.

Since then she's said that she still wants to win the bet against TwoBlackAces for the month. I'm too lazy to find the quote to show my work, but I remember it specifically because MLY said she kept the bet to save $50. She's therefore trying to win bets, which is hard to do without counting calories.

I know this is what I should do. It's so so hard for me though. My boss gets absolutely no respect and that trickles down to our group, and this bugs the **** out of me for some reason. No one takes our group seriously, and because she has made so many bad decisions, no one trust the decisions/judgment of the other people in the group. Im constantly trying to get out of doing stupid ****/convince her not to do stupid **** and make dumbass decisions, so that I can do things that will actually matter and improve our processes and bottom line and we can be taken seriously. But oh well, I'm gonna work on not letting things bother me, or taking things too seriously. I've just got to get in the frame of mind that it's just a paycheck right now, I've got time to do other things, and I can enjoy work at some later time.
