3 - Wainright out for season is much bigger and more immediate problem. However, if he's on DL to end 2011, the Cards don't have to pick up his option, which magically could create more $$$ for Pujols. Strange how that could work out.
2 - Yeah I have heard that several places, though the timing is in question. Apparently drank from a bottle after getting pulled over on suspicion of dui. That is going scorched earth if I've ever heard it.
3 - Wainright had Tommy John surgery, he is toast until at least next season, if not part of that as well. Considering the money Pujols is looking for, though, I doubt the Cardinals will keep him around anyway.
The most tantalizing idea I have heard thrown around is a Rangers trade for Pujols. Rangers have a glaring weakness at first base, lots of young talent in the minors to trade, new ownership flush with cash, and some expectations of being competitive this season after last year. Personally, I think it makes a lot of sense, and would MUCH rather the Rangers throw a mountain of cash at Pujols instead of Hamilton. I think Hamilton is going to break down very early (smoking crack catching up to him) and giving him a long term deal will be a horrendous mistake.
