Re: an old TR, american ninja warrior
Try again man! Sounds like you have what it takes to actually make it if you can just control your brain.

If the TR was so awesome, I don't think he really needs to write another.

Great trip report, Alobar! My kids and I love the show and both of them (9 and 10) do parkour and take parkour/crossfit classes. About how many people total ran when you went?

He'll do things like walk up the stairs by pulling himself up the bannister or trying to get on the couch over the arm. They like jumping onto my daughter's bed, pretending the rug is the water. Of course, he purposely falls in the "water" all the time.

LOL, my 2.5 yr old boy did the same thing!
I was watching the NBC version a few weeks ago and noticed half way through that he was running and flipping around like a madman. I finally figured out that he was pretending to do the course and/or the parkour clips that they were showing in between.
So naturally I set up a little obstacle course for him in the living room where he could jump off steps, climb over and under things, etc. And in between he would roll around on the ground. I don't know if I've ever seen him have so much fun. Long story short after the third time he hit his head on our wood floor the wife made us stop.

OP,
thanks for the thread. Watching on TV it seems like if you have the opportunity to practice getting through the first round course is relatively easy but if you have no practice on the obstacles it's nearly impossible. Would you agree with that? And is this course something that anyone in halfway decent shape can do or does it take a truly exceptional athlete?

+1 for giving it another shot. Seriously, seems like a cool experience even though you "misclicked" or whatever. I don't really watch the show much but I do think it's gotten tougher but also cooler and stuff.

wow thats awesome. How do parkour classes work, do they teach them tumbling and stuff at like a gymnastics gym and mix that in with actual stuff youd do like running around a city and stuff?
I forget the number now, id say it was prolly like 200 people?

yeah, its definitely a TON easier if you can practice on the obstacles. Like if I hadnt got to practice the week before realistically I would have had close to zero chance. Like I said, I failed the warped wall the first few times I did it. I would have failed the rope swing. Even something like the sextuple steps or the jump bars that I could its just a lot easier knowing I could do them. But after I had gotten the hang of all the stuff I could do it pretty easily. I mean I dont think its a coincidence that the obstacle that put me out was the one obstacle there that I hadnt previously attempted.
I think anyone in decent shape who has some athleticism could get through it with some practice. I think the people that get through it having never tried any of it before are the people who are pretty sick athletes.

Great report.
Would've liked to see the video, but it wanted windows media player to play it, so I said F it.
Anyways, I hope you try again... and let us know how it goes.
