I thought they changed the sim size from a micro sim to a nano sim?

Everything is a cash grab this time around. New lightning adapters. Smaller sims cards. Losing Verizon unlimited data. Apple raised the rake on us this time but they brought in auto shufflers.

The more serious issue is: How will apps designed for the iPhone 5 display look on older iPhones? Either image downscaling with some loss of detail, or developers have to code for two different display modes.

Apple is only responsible for one of those.

I actually used another one of my family member's upgrade to get this iphone. Its kind of nice for me because ours alternate every year and I sell my previous version to almost break even. With that being said, I had to fix the shipping address to mine and my shipping date still shows 9/21/12 on the track order page and hopefully its delivered on time.

This is kind of a dumb question, but does anyone know if the phone just gets shipped as is (fresh off the shelves) or does it come pre-activated? It's gonna create some major hassle for me if that were the case...

I think it will be okay, perhaps they'll only offer apps to iphone 5 specifically?

Of course there are ways to deal with it, but having devices with different aspect ratios is a new problem that ios apps didn't have to handle before. It's a less unified development environment than it was previously and I'm curious to see how this issue will be addressed.

I assume pre-activated? Else, why would anyone ever buy an unlocked phone for $650+?

But then again, I have no idea. I've never bought a phone directly through Apple.

well not really. You are still agreeing to a two-year extension with your carrier. You get a discount because of that.

Except the phone is on an account that doesn't qualify for the subsidy so they might frown on that...

I honestly don't think they care, if anything, they'd encourage it. Only thing they really want is the 2year extension. What diff does it make who gets the iphone as long as the contract is extended?

I've always suspected many do this with their iPhone.

wait for about 25mins and got some clarifications.

For those who ordered today, regardless as to when you ordered (3:05am or 11am), the iphones will start being shipped on 9/21/12 w/2-3weeks in shipping time. So we are looking at early October-ish to rec'd them.

Apple stores will have iphone 5's available on 9/21, but im guessing those are for those who haven't pre-ordered and are just gonna wait all night in line for it.

As for my personal question, all iphones will be shipped blank, meaning not pre-activated.

That's odd and unfortunate
Assumed it was like iPad and previous iPhones and get it same day apple has it
Hopefully the person you spoke with is incorrect.

Edit: my Verizon receipt says delivery by 9/21

I have no evidence to back this up but your post seems wrong.

Now when I get my new iPhone obviously I will transfer the backup of my 4 to the 5.

Now what happens when a day or two later when we have ATT switch my wifes number to the 4? How will syncing work? Will that confuse itunes? Can you sync 2 separate iPhone's in itunes?

5 GB's are free... Mindless backup's. Shared contacts, lists, notes, bookmarks, app data (Like ibooks)

Why not do it?
