I had that happen, try turning it off completely, plugging it in and then turning on.
Mine works perfectly now. YMMV.

Have you tried using another lightning cable to see if the phone works?

Alternatively you can look on eBay for an iPhone repair service, you send the phone to them, they repair the phone and send it back to you. Just make sure to check the feedback of the seller.

I've tried around 5 different cables - they all work fine with other iPhones but not my iPhone 6.

I tried to clean out the port. Used a paper clip, tooth pick, tooth brush -- this worked for a few days but then stopped.

Can this be repaired via apple? Or is 3rd party the only option

Mine was going on two years and they replaced phone for free. Said it was defective as one of the strips in the charging area had become dislodged.

I'd suction a dry-vac to the port first since scraping the port out has worked before. I dunno if the entire phone's guts will flow out of the port, though, because, you know, Apple and all...

Just bring it to the Apple Store, I did with the same issue and they took it in the back and fixed it for free. At least that way if they can't fix it they might replace it for you.

My contract with Verizon is up in a few months. I want to buy a new iPhone 7, but also open to an iPhone 6 or 6s if it is significantly cheaper. I currently have an iPhone 6 that I have been happy with, but recently broke and I need to get a new phone.

What are my options? Open to switching carries if necessary. I have heard carriers no longer offer contracts with subsidized phones, so my only option is to buy a new phone at retail price ($649 + tax for 32GB iPhone 7)? Seems expensive, is this really what everyone is doing?

Edit: Assume I have the cash to purchase the new phone in cash. I see a lot of carriers offering random deals with various payment plans and "0 cash down", but this does not appeal to me at all.

The charge port is a replaceable part and does not require soldering, check ifixit for your model to see the process. If apple will repair this I'd do it there as you'll get an authentic part, ymmv on third party services. I've seen a lot of botched jobs because bad or inexperienced techs lose screws, damage thin flex cables and antennas, etc.

In general, if you try to clean a charge port, use a non-conductive material and do not scrape the connectors. Use a bright light to help you see when it's clean

Bantam, you buy the phone on a payment plan that is 0% interest; you can just buy outright if you want, but may as well take the 0% and put on auto-pay

You can do this through apple at an Apple Store (will require buying AppleCare tho) or through your cell company

Does Verizon not still offer upgrades with 2 year plans?

Ugh guess not, that sucks, may be holding onto this SE a lot longer than expected...an iPhone 7 would cost me more than I've paid for all of mine and my wife's phones together...

They do leases now where you can get a new phone every year. When I switched from the 2 year upgrade plan to the lease plan that my monthly rate went up 18 cents or something stupid. Of course I didn't have a phone to sell every two years but that was a benefit for me, ymmv.

Well I've previously enjoyed getting phones for super cheap, so it will be a slight drag to have to pay for anything - got the 4s for $150, then got free 5s a couple years later with trade-in (backfired some when my phone broke at ~18 months and I had to buy a used one), then got 64GB SEs this year for $50. Have been able to get a good sale price on used phones as well. Adding $50 to our monthly bill isn't the end of the world but you can see why I'm addicted to the cheap phone lifestyle.

You realize you were paying for those in your monthly bill? It costs less per month for just service now and you buy your phone separately

How so? My wife's mom has a monthly charge for her phone but I never did, just paid for the plan. What is different now? I've only been in charge of the phone bill for a couple of years so maybe I'm missing something.

"Paying" as in signing a 2 year contract, maybe?

You were probably paying at least $20 extra per line for the plan on top of what you may have paid for the phone up front. Something like $199 down plus $40 per line and if you went past the 2 years you still paid the $40 per line. Now it could be $20 per line and it stays at $20 even when the phone is paid off.

That makes sense, it used to be $40 per line and now is $20, didn't realize there was an upcharge. Cool, I can now feel less bad next time I have to upgrade.

Heh I got a Speck case with a little kick stand at Marshall's for $5 when I got my iPhone 5 and still use it on my SE - it's protected the phone from numerous drops and makes a great party trick. We've had Otterbox cases but those are super bulky - New Trent makes some nice products, plus they let you be a beta tester for future items. Don't know specific cases though, sorry

I've had my spigen with kickstand since 6+ came out; used it on 6+ for one year and 6s+ for 1.5 years now

The kickstand did eventually break off after 1-2 years, but the case is still going strong

I'll prolly get same case when new iPhone comes out

Was $20 on Amazon

thanks for replies will order one now ,

just to say i'm happy with the SE its a lot faster than the 5, camera is awesome (was main reason for upgrading) also the 4G and wifi signal is heaps better too

as an example i have a router with wifi access point. with the 5 i was able to access it from the far back garden which is say 25metres away give or take at a weak signal at furthest point.

with the SE this is no joke i am in a field possibly over 100/150metres away and getting full signal on my wifi
it is open field land where i live no obstructions at all.

What's the least painful way to transfer a video from my iphone to laptop without the use of any apps? I tried sending to my e-mail but the video is too long (~9 minutes) to send in one piece so I would have to send a bunch of mini-videos and patch them together - which I have no clue how to do
