Didn't they go up to $1.20? At that price, is worth the extra 20 cents to get the real double

All,

Thanks for the reassurance. **** that guy.

DBZ,

I obv formed my own patties and seasoned generously with salt & pepper. I didn't realize it would be an lol amount to convert hamburger meat to hamburger patties. I also served the burgers with sweet potato wedges and an arugula salad.

Is there anyway to restrict a poster's posting to one thread? I've stumbled across a few posts from tbab in other threads than "his". He hasn't done anything terrible yet but imo it's just a matter of time.

Mullen,
For hamburger formation labor, my butcher charges 50 cents per patty. At least that's what the sign says. I've never taken him up on the offer.

Patty artistes don't come cheap.

Mullen,

You have me super curious now. Both whole foods and two other butchers I go to will do whatever I request w a roast or steak (trim, cut into steaks, cut into pieces, grind, whatever) for no additional charge. Now I'm curious and will ask them to turn some ground beef into patties and see if there's an upcharge for that.

So did he take your patties and angrily mash them into one big glob and give them to you?
08-03-2014 , 08:24 AM
When he gets angry, you should just leave.

El D,

Yeah, I always assumed that kind of work was part of being a butcher. Like if I ordered a bunch of steaks at $15/lb and wanted some excess fat trimmed or something, I wouldn't expect to pay anything extra, let alone a significant amount more.

Minimalist,

No, he went back and grinded me more meat, then weighed it and charged me $7/lb. I don't know what he did with the extra burgers.

Re: him being angry - he was just really snappy when I asked about the price difference. He was incredulous I didn't understand and said "that's labor" "we make the burgers" a couple times over and over. When he ended up grinding me new meat he wrapped it and handed it to me really forcefully.

People that get angry are such a turn off. How long did it take him to make the burgers ?

My nearest supermarket adopted the policy that if you find a piece of old/rotten fruit/veggies in their store you get a free bag of fruit and vegetables. I found out 4 days ago and have just gotten my 5th bag of free stuff from that place. I went twice yesterday. Avocado's are my new friends.

Seems a bit too easy to abuse

Yak,

I observed him preparing the burgers from the ground meat - it took him less than 30 seconds.

Still $1 around me , I think it depends on whether it's franchise vs corporate.

The cost difference is absurd, but it also would never occur to me to have them make patties considering how trivial it is to do at home and you can possibly incorporate other ingredients during the process.
08-03-2014 , 12:14 PM
Mullen,

Yeah, they raise a good point. Why not make the patties yourself exactly how you like them? Maybe the butcher considers it a dumbass tax.

Yeah, I had a little talk with the person in charge today and she said people seem to be buying stuff and returning it later once it went bad at home. I hope this will not affect their policy o_O. I already made a nice sangria and apple compote with the free fruits they gave me. It only takes 2 minutes of browsing through their 'fresh' section at most to find something. Today I got 5 apples, 5 bananas a cucumber and 5 tomatoes. Holllaaa.

Most lucrative 30 seconds a butcher ever had, lol.

Might as well throw a free lotto ticket in there.

Like, hide it in one of the patties.

Had a slight change of plans during my Greece trip and needed to check in a day earlier in my hotel in Athens. They said they only had the room with the view available which is a bit more expensive so I went ahead and got it for tonight. holy **** what a great view it is.

Hopefully they have the roon available for tomorrow because I definitely want to upgrade the room for the length of my stay.
