If it wasn't in the movie, who was it in the book?

This is a rare occasion that I liked the movie better than the book. I wanted to like the nested dolls structure of the book, and it was novel, but ultimately I liked the woven structure of the move more.

Having a hard time coming up with many movies I liked as much as this one.

I don't care what the critics say this is a brilliant masterpiece of a movie. But I have only seen it 7 times so far so I'm not sure yet.

Every time I see the movie I pick up on something new, so complex, and so beautiful. I have not seen a better movie.

Saw it for the 2nd time last night and I can't stop thinking about it. I just don't know how to explain it. It's quite possibly one of the most thought provoking movies I've seen in a long time and I mean that in the best way possible. See this movie before it leaves theatres. You won't regret it. Going to find the book tomorrow.

haven't had a chance to see the movie yet (started the book recently) and am fully expecting to love it, however i just wanted to say its pretty absurd to try and affirm or deny a movies quality based on how many oscars it wins.

how can the oscars mean anything when crash won best picture?

Well I am officially no longer interested in taking prop bets on this movie. I made a small one at the tables with a PLO regular at the commerce but only for $100. Considering in the 2 weeks since I posted the prop bet offer the amount of theaters that this is playing at has gone down by 85% or more I have no interest in taking a prop bet on this. I honestly figured this movie would pick up a few awards for trivial items like best costume design. Nothing major like best film even though I think Argo doesn't hold a candle to this.

Making a prop bet on this now to me would be equivalent to betting on a team after its qb has got injuried just because I love the team. Any EV on this bet has gone against me I have no interest in taking a prop bet on cloud atlas to win, or tie for most academy awards as of 11/20.

Some contacted me earlier today so I posted this. I looked yesterday to see this in Ventura was playing at 5 theaters 2 weeks ago, closest viewing now is 23 miles away.

How man theaters near you were showing The Artist? I thought the whole point of the prop bet was that while the film may not be super popular among the public, you think that the Academy will recognize its greatness.

also wanted to chime in here and say that i enjoyed this movie a lot. i can see how it might be a bit confusing at times for people who don't pay attention heavily to movies in general. (caveat- i read this book a few years ago so i sorta remembered a lot of the story).

even though it was 3 hours long, i never really felt like i was bored. good stuff.

I thought it would be and was disliked by the reviewers as I stated originally. But I didn't think it would bomb so fast with the public. 100 million dollar budget movie disapears from theaters in under 3 weeks from opening. Now a bet I thought was slightly -EV or nuetral EV, is clearly big time -EV and I no longer want to risk my money on it.

I wouldn't bet USC -3 this week Vrs Norte Dame the line was -3 last week and there qb got hurt and the line is know ND-6.

The movie bombing totally with the public to me moves the line and I no longer want the odds I stated when this movie was at every theater in America. Just because the reviewers disliked it, CA could have had a decent ticket sales record and I thought it would. It is clear it will not even be a top 50 box office grossing movie this year. It is at 90 at time of post. To me that was not clear 2 weeks ago. As another $20 million in ticket sales bumps it into top 40-50 grossing movies this year. 40 million more makes it a top 25 film of the year.

I was wrong offering the bet, but now that the dust has settled and this has been pulled I don't think 10-1 would be a fair price on my end. To bad no one took me up on this right away as I was basically giving money away. With my prop bet history in the sports betting forum it would have not been the first time I have made a dumb prop bet and lost.

Still think CA is the best movie I have seen. Obviously everyone from the public to reviewers disagree so maybe I shouldn't be offering up prop bets on movies anytime soon.

saw it. really enjoyed it. really enjoyed the message and it struck deep within me. i hope in my lifetime I will be able to voice something as profound as this movie. it has inspired me to take my dreams of becoming a writer for a tv show a little more seriously.



also, Korea being the centerpiece location for the Blade Runnerish future is important. the movie (book?) is commenting on the current culture (or lack thereof) of Korea and the direction its heading toward. I am Korean and one of my friends is an avid historian/analyst of Korean culture. we both agree that we are losing our souls in the name of brutal efficiency. our identity is strongly tied with our income/profession/materialistic goods and other superficial qualities. we are losing substance and are losing our humanity in the process.

I agree with this, at the same time I'm fascinated by awards season. I didn't really follow the Oscars until 2006? 2007? I always casually watched previous years. I can't say my favorite film has won Best Picture just yet =/ I'm mixed going into this year. I believe Argo is the favorite going in, yet it's not my favorite of 2012. Cloud Atlas is my favorite and I doubt it will receive a Best Picture nomination. =/

I thought Cloud Atlas had a chance until Lincoln. Lincoln will probably sweep imo.

Little derail but is this one of the most loaded years for best picture candidates in years? Argo, Lincoln and Les Miz as solid front runners and the next tier full of Oscar bait like The Master, Life of Pi, and Beasts of the Southern Wild. Throw in longshots like Django and Moonlight Kingdom and its a deep class, I don't know how many of the 10 in the 2011 class would even get nominated this year

at the end of the somi story (korean dystopian future), the rebels had their last stand in the tower (they all died), which were all of the dead bodies in the post apoc story with black chick and tom hanks.

The rebel's last stand was in Neo Seoul. The "tower" is in Hawaii, presumably the Mauna Kea observatories. Meronym uses it to contact the off-world colonies. We can assume that the corpses in the observatory were the remnants of civilization attempting to do the same.

I guess I would agree with you, but I'd have to see everything before I pass judgement. I'd only call it a loaded class by today's standards. I'd say you'd have to go to 2007 oscars to beat it. You'd have to go back to the 1998 oscars to beat 2007 imo. Most years in the 90's beat the 2007 class imo. Basically I hate modern movies.

I saw this movie and while I enjoyed it, I had trouble following it. I saw it by myself while waiting for someone to finish something and didn't have anyone to discuss things that didn't make sense or parts that my feeble mind had trouble with so I was left with a bunch of ?s and wtf's?

You probably didn't get Inception either then. What parts were confusing? Maybe we can clear things up.

I'm surprised more people aren't upset with the cheesy happy-ending changes to the Korea and Hawaii storylines.

also, i don't see how having your lover die in front of your eyes and then being executed qualifies as cheesy happy-ending.
