sorry you people who are not on the west coast and cant get in n out. i go there at least once a week, its amazing basically.

before you easters get mad, yes i've also been to 5 guys..and it was pretty solid but in n out burger was much tastier. I liked the fries at 5 guys better, though.

They also just opened a Habit right near my house which is a solid contender to in n out. But again thats a west coast place as well.

Assuming you're taking I-90 like google maps tells me is the best route, you have get off the thruway near Rochester and try a garbage plate at Nick Tahoes. How can you say no to this?

I basically never eat at BK except when they have the "Texas Whopper". I don't know what it is about adding bacon, mustard and jalapenos to a whopper that makes it 900x better but it does.

there are few things that gross me out, but macaroni salad is one of them. would not touch the garbage plate unless that was removed

I really don't understand the mac that seems to be on there. Take it off and throw a fried egg on top, cover in ketchup and i'm going to town.

In the Northwest US Burgerville is by far my favorite. Great food from good sources and a great seasonal menu. Also very socially responsible company continually giving back to the communities in which they operate.

Re: New fast food discussion/review thread

Other than the seasonal Walla Walla onion rings nothing is really worth eating at burgerville anymore. Burgers are like 1/8th pound and meh, fries are so-so, prices are too high and the fish and chips pieces are 1/4th the size they were in the 90s. I used to love that place but I don't even bother hitting it anymore when i go down to portland.

Re: New fast food discussion/review thread

Culvers is definitely great but the fries are terrible, always go for the cheese curds. Any burger is good. Still never had a custard there.

They also have fried chicken for some reason which is pretty good.

Sonic drinks and tots are great and so are their burgers which no one seems to ever get. I don't like the toaster sandwiches at all, too much bread. They do have breakfast all day.

I like the hotdogs there but they are just hotdogs.

The one time I went to Culvers I remember the milkshakes being the main attraction. Good burger, but amazing milkshake

I eat at Hy's a lot and technically I guess you could call it a chain since there are six of them but that isn't really all that common. I was thinking of places like Jack Astor's, East Side Mario's, The Keg, Boston Pizza, Montana's, Outback, etc.

I'm off the opinion that garbage plates should only be consumed drunk. Probably not the best idea for a road trip.

If it was good mac and cheese, it'd have a chance. But it looks like it's either cold mac salad or terribly prepared mac and cheese. The moistened sawdust-meat on top doesn't help things either.

Hen - why are you in a fast food thread? How could you possibly add any value ITT where we are reviewing various fast food items?

Re: New fast food discussion/review thread

Any OOTers ever have this? It's a single shop in Massapequa, NY out on Long Island, that has been featured on the Travel Channel, and pretty much any tri-state top 10 burger list.

Hard to explain why they are so good, but think of an extra large McDonalds Cheeseburger with the best fries you will ever have. Diced Onion, 2 slices of cheese, ketchup pickles and a patty, the picture makes it look like ****, but believe me, I've never had a better burger.

Cheap as hell too, the prices have barely changed in the last 20 years.

Wow, nice. Not to derail too much, but I thought of this after reading your post:

http://ny.eater.com/archives/2010/09...t_sandwich.php

It's the M Wells breakfast sandwich (out in LIC) - have you tried it IndieMatty? It looks awesome:

Quote:
Last Friday M. Wells, the hot new LIC diner, got a little love from local news team ABC 7, who filmed a profile of husband and wife team Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis. In the clip Hugue demos the recipe for that breakfast sandwich that's getting all the buzz, with the homemade English muffin and pork sausage, pickled jalapenos, and eggs that are zapped in the microwave before hitting the grill. As he explains, the reference point was McDonald's. And good news for those currently craving a Québécois egg sandwich: per their newsletter, M. Wells is extending their hours till 4pm today and tomorrow, so that customers can grab a bite to eat and make the 4:30 Hamptons-bound LIRR train at Hunter's Point for the holiday weekend. And if you want to buy the premium mushrooms used in the food there (which are foraged from the Gaspé Peninsula in Québec, btw), they are for sale, too.

wtf have you ever even been to an arby's? it's ok from time to time, but you described like 2 sandwiches they have, which aren't even what they're known for.

The place is shaped like a big barn and according to their website, they were the first place to ever do drive thru service, back in '73. They have Southern fare, mostly fried chicken sandwiches. But their claim to fame is their Great Gobbler - a fried turkey breast on a big roll with mayo, cranberry sauce, and lettuce. Man, I gotta hit that **** up next time I'm in Vegas.

Would this be a good thread to talk about food trucks? I know they're big here in L.A. and not so much other places (yet), but they're definitely worthy of their own thread. So many awesome trucks, and the food is definitely better quality than fast food, and is usually very reasonably priced.
Farm Basket sounds great. I hope that the opportunity presents itself someday for me to try a Great Gobbler.

Food trucks have become vogue in DC in the past year or so. I haven't jumped on the bandwagon, but there's no shortage of people around who are eager to tell you about their latest "amazing" experience with them.

My suggestion for the OP is to try the limited-time-only Korean BBQ tacos or burrito @ California Tortilla if you have access to one. They're quite good.

Re: New fast food discussion/review thread

Al,

Never even heard of the place, not sure I want Jalapenos on my breakfast sandwich.

Stabn,

The problem I always have with NYC visitors is that this place is so far from the city, you need to take a train and a decent walk to get to it, takes like 90 minutes.

Probably going to get 5 guys on thursday when I go downtown, shining up my camera phone for this thread.
