Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

Nice list.

If you like good war movies I'd move Das boot and bridge on the river kwai to the top, two of the best ever made. Primer, eraserhead, Close encounters, and donnie brasco are all excellent as well.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

Don't know if anyone saw this today, but the stock shot up almost 10% after Netflix announced that they are releasing a $99 device that streams movies to any tv. One time charge, does not affect # of rentals in package etc.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

I am very close to ordering one. The Watch Instantly is nice, but pc viewing sucks. even with a nice set up. So I would much rather watch all this stuff on my big screen.

Just wish it was HD.

it will be eventually: The Netflix Player is HD-ready. It has all the connections you need to connect it to your HDTV, and it’s capable of playing back HD content. When Netflix releases HD content for Instant Watching, the Netflix Player by Roku will be ready.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

I'd have to upgrade my i-net connection.. 1.5Mbit DSL just doesn't cut it for Watch Instantly.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

So the $99 set-top box only works for Watch Instantly movies? Pretty sick still but would be insanely sick if it was for more.

Eventually 100% of movies will be on Watch Instantly, assuming all the movie studios get their heads out of their butts. Once they get permission, Netflix can digitize movies in no time.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

i am VERY tempted by the roku, especially since it's hd-ready for when netflix offers it

however, i am not currently a netflix member and so i can't see how good their '10,000 movies and shows' selection is...anywhere i can go to see this? their site only shows a handful

i just signed out, and i agree that it looks like it won't let you see the whole thing as a guest.

check it out using a friend's account or sign up for a free two-week trial? i think it's easy to cancel online.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

I just bought the Roku player. I'm connected using the wireless side of my Verizon FIOS router. I've watched the first 6 episodes of Dexter S1 and the first 14 episodes of News Radio S1 (i'd forgotten how great Phil Hartman was in that show). It works great, I've had like two 1/2 second glitches so far.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

Netflix's watch instantly is coming to xbox live.

Quote:
In the quest to reign the world of home entertainment streaming, partnering with Microsoft to provide your movie download service on Xbox 360 is definitely a good move. In fact, it’s a safe bet that a good percentage of potential set top box owners are already packing an Xbox 360 and for these guys you’re practically a shoo in. Netflix, of course, is the lucky winner here. Showcased at a Microsoft roundtable event held yesterday, Netflix’s Xbox 360 streaming service was actually quite impressive. Movies and TV episodes added to the Netflix queue (this still has to be done on a PC for now) become available on the Xbox 360 almost instantly and playback is controlled with the same familiar navigational elements used during DVD and video playback. As Netflix continues to expand its streamable library beyond the 10,000 movies and TV episodes already present, this partnership with Microsoft is going to help their service tremendously. Once it launches, the Netflix on Xbox 360 service will require a Gold level Xbox-Live subscription.
i'm excited for this, no more hooking the computer up to the TV with an s-video to watch movies!! hopefully this will look good on hdtv's... thoughts?
