? about Magic City (obviously dont read this if you havent seen it, and start watching it!)

Spoiler:
in the last scene of episode 3 or 4 some guy finds the pictures of the hotel owner's son banging the mobster's wife. i dont remember seeing him be4, am i supposed to know who that is? im starting ep. 6 if that makes any difference.
35 episode series based on true events over 2 decades with multiple wars and classical figures like Da Vinci/Michelangelo/Machiavelli/Cesare Borgia, including their inventions/art/military strategy, and only one of which is in the first several episodes. At the very least, it's a dramatized piece of history. It's definitely not CSI where the series can be judged by a single episode. 10 minutes eh?

Anyone that planned on watching Borgia, remember that in his paragraph above where he says Borgia is brutally bad, he mentions binging The Walking Dead and that Magic City is good because of all the fantastic breasts everywhere.

the writing was bad, the acting was worse, and the scene selection to open up a series was also quite terrible. so you have to be right, it must get better b/ it can hardly get any worse. if its important to convey the age of female character they could have chosen a better way than the series opening with her waking up shrieking, waving her bed sheets around after getting her first period.

it was laughably bad when they chose to show "there are rivalries and infighting" with that awful scene in front of the Pope, then Borgia yelling "stop your rivalries and infighting!" over a heated game of cribbage.

then when they made Sam from the Night's Watch a Cardinal i couldn't take it anymore.

i didn't say i like Magic City because of the breasts everywhere (so read better), i liked it b/ its first impression was that of a well written and well acted show.

You must be really young. Someone mature wouldn't write that first sentence after only seeing 10 minutes of the show. Remember this is a recommendation thread. You haven't even seen the show. Stop having such strong opinions when you don't know what you're talking about.

The writing is amazing, but you have no way of knowing that. The acting, if you can get past John Doman(Rawls[The Wire] playing a spanish character), is very good. The show takes places over decades, so every character evolves, which is why you can't possilbly know how good the acting is.

That's the exact point I stopped watching also. However, Lastlife's emphatic plea is making me consider giving it another shot.

Got talked into watching Chef or The Chef starring the dude from Swingers. This is why I don't like most movies anymore. Rough plot outline spoiled below.

Spoiler:
Some fat douche is unhappy with his gig at an upscale restaurant because he can't vary the menu and feels stifled. So he ends getting happy by running a food truck from which he produces one type of greasy pork sandwich?

Meanwhile this fat whiny weirdo is involved with like the hottest women on the planet (I know it's hollywood but come on)?

His best friend leaves a promotion at said upscale restaurant in order to fly across the country, without invitation, to trade his life for the chance to play second fiddle on what he believes to be a taco truck???

Then the critic who ruined the chef's career as a result of some social media beef decides basically give the guy his own restaurant on the basis of said greasy pork sandwich which is nothing more than simply the sandwich known as a cuban?

I don't understand how this crap is produced let alone watched.

Just recently watched Freak Show...
Spoiler:
which i thought fizzed out hard at the end as was all over the place.

So I've been being a real bum and streaming the other 2 seasons. Asylum, say it along with me now,
Spoiler:
was all over the place and fizzled out at the end

now im on Coven, which so far seems like it might be the best season, but im not even a 3rd through.

this has gotta be the most consistently inconsistent show on tv... if that makes any lick of sense.
I'll give you three guesses how Coven wraps up.

Fwiw I enjoyed Chef, although it did fall victim to random lol moments and hollywood cliches.

Franklin BBQ in Austin too

Chef had like a 3 page 3rd act, but it wasn't too bad

I would watch anything that has Johansson and Downey in it. The story sound ludicrous tho. Favreau can get pretty silly.

That's a pretty bad summary of the movie by Deuces.

It's a light, fun movie. Not saying it was great by any means but I enjoyed watching it. It also made me hungry.

That's actually a very important part of the show, the act itself, not Sam becoming a cardinal. He is barely in the show after the first few episodes.

Very minor spoiler
Spoiler:
It's the first cardinal seat that is sold in the show

Surprised by the AHS hate. I recently watched S3: Coven on NF and thought it was great.

Spoiler:
The Stevie Nicks stuff was lol bad and pointless but overall I really enjoyed Coven.

Jessica Lange is amazing. Also Bassett, Bates and pretty much the entire cast were terrific. Maybe I just thought it was so good because I had been watching some Walking Dead shortly before I started Coven? The writing, directing and acting on AHS seems to be on Godfather: Part II levels when compared to WOAT Walking Dead.

Those were just some of the logic problems with the plot which I found comical, not intended as a summary. I always get sidetracked with that type of stuff while others don't as much. I could go on about how developing the relationship with his kid was depicted in a very shallow and unconvincing way using a bunch of cliches, but I think the "meh" sentiment of the crowd here sums it up well. The scene with Robert Downey was funny, probably guest written by Vince Vaughn.

started watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but quit after about 20 minutes because several of the white characters looked really similar and i was getting confused. plus all the talk about moles was getting me psyched to start watching The Assets, which i did, all the way through. i liked it cause i like spy stuff, but i didn't like the scene where the mole confidently boasts, "i'll never get caught, they've got two women working on this." so i liked it, but i don't think i'd watch it again. it felt like The Americans but with too much america. 3/5 stars

after that was over i took another shot at Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and was really enjoying it despite the monochromatic cast and benedict cumberbatch's obvious wig. but then the very end sequence came and i REALLY didn't like it, but maybe i just didn't get it? overall though it gave me a feeling that i'll watch it again because it seemed very deep and layered, which i like, so i'll rate it 4/5 stars

woooow, really?

That's legit one of the most powerful end sequences for me of all time... I wouldn't be able to think of another movie where the end sequence really grabbed me like that except maybe Whiplash.

Jesus. I paused the movie 3 minutes in to come back here. Even if the rest of the movie is garbage, it gets 4 out of 5 stars just for the first 3 minutes.

Def putting me in the mood to day drink.

Some are weak-willed and let themselves be talked into watching things they might not enjoy, imo.

Chef is a good movie if taken at face value (I also like that it's basically a road trip through some of my favorite cities). I too was hungry afterwards and went as far as trying to replicate his grilled cheese.
