I'm having problems with my ps3 having to rebuffer several times. It gets much worse near the end of the movie. Do I just need a faster internet connection, or is there something else I can do about this?

Better internet connection would be great

Otherwise you might have to just pause the movie at the start and maybe in the middle for a little bit

Has the quality of the movie been changing on the fly? Does it appear more grainy when it has to rebuffer? If so, then it's probably a problem with the speed of your internet. It it always comes back the same quality (particularly if it starts out in HD), it might be a problem with the connectivity. Is your PS3 on wireless?

The PS3 is on wireless. I haven't noticed a problem with the quality of the picture (not HD).

A wired connection might work better even without a faster internet?

Minor things can happen that will affect the data transfer rate over wireless that would not affect a wired connection. When Netflix determines the best resolution you can watch, it is testing to see how fast your connection is and sending you the maximum resolution that your connection can sustain. HD content takes more bandwidth, say to sustain an HD movie requires 1.8 Mbits/second. If the PS3 is able to sustain that transfer rate during the test period, then Netflix will send you HD content. However, if something happens and your wireless spontaneously drops transfer rate for a short time (any number of things can cause this) then your PS3 will run out of HD buffer and be left with nothing to play. The movie will pause and rebuffer until it has enough data to start playing content again.

Wireless connections are vulnerable to this issue. For something like browsing the web you'll rarely notice when the connection slows down. It might be a little more apparent if you're doing something like poker, all the tables will freeze and then it will skip straight to a flop being on the board with no animation. It's more visible in something like streaming because when when you run out of data to stream, you just have a black screen. Anyway, this can be caused by any kind of electromagnetic irregularity that would affect the strength of the signal that you PS3 can receive. In a wired connection, there is very little interference (compared to wireles) so you will rarely experience buffer problems unless there is actually a heavy load on your router/ISP.

That's pretty long-winded but you get the idea.

I'm very happy about Arrested Development. Hopefully Curb Your Enthusiasm and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are on deck...

Yeah I use my wired connection when watching movies because otherwise somewhere along the line I'll have to pause.

Anyone else having problems with fast forwarding and rewinding through Xbox Live? Specifically, when I hit play I often get kicked back to the menu and sometimes the spot it's at when I restart it is way off.

Just watched "Deliver Us From Evil." It's been a very long time since I've felt rage this strong.

watching the first season of Dexter right now. Solid show, but doesn't deserve the hype it gets imo. A little on the predictable side (or maybe I'm just in the mind of the writers) and wtf Dexters sister has got to be one of the most annoying characters ever.

It took me months to get through the first 9 or 10 episodes of Dexter. The last two episodes of season 1 and all of season 2 took me 15 hours.

I guess it's time to start in on 24 considering it's all there (at least the first big handful of seasons). Or Prison Break.

24 >>>> Prison Break.

PB season 1 is awesome and def worth watching...but do not waste your time on the final 3 seasons...although I will say I thought they ended it well after 2+ years of mediocrity.

24 S1 is the nuts

I tried watching "Heroes" but lost interest about 1/2 way thru the 2nd season. Am I missing much?

No, after season 1 there's maybe a half hour of good TV within the next 3 seasons.

Yeah, Heroes and Prison Break are good examples of 1 season wonders. Barely anything worth watching after that.

For those of you watchiing on here, are you noticing flickering across the screen? I have a *well* above average computer, and I can download at up to 2MB/s(sometimes more) and the sound never chops, the video just seems to sort of have to play catch up once in a while. This never happens watching DVD, or Blu-ray, or even youtube videos.

I get the problem in both IE7 and the latest Firefox, which only really leaves Silverlight as the culprit.

So hopefully I'm not alone here?

FWIW this happens on both the 24 and 30" monitor.

I'm watching the Tudors, season one (showtime), it's pretty good. The actor who plays the king is pretty amazing.
