Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

Hey, has anyone actually used the PS3+disc to watch instantly? Had a couple of quick questions:

- Is the interface generally easy to use?
- Can you browse movies not in your queue?
- What are the wait times like for streaming normal def? HD, if available?

TIA.

Very simple to use. You keep the disc and it doesn't count towards your allotted number of movies. You put the disc in the ps3 and it gives you an activation code. You login into netflix and enter the code and you're good to go. The disc just needs to be in the ps3 to access your watch instantly stuff. You are not able to browse movies that aren't in your watch instantly queue but that isn't that big of a deal since it; easy to add them. The wait times are very fast with no hiccups in playback that I've experienced.

-Interface is super slick.

-You can, but its a hell of a lot easier to put them in your queue on a computer first.

-Wait times are like <10 seconds and the content is all DVD-quality.

-If you're watching a TV series, it remembers where you left off, even if middle of an episode (I'm currently halfway through Brotherhood Season 2 and think anyone who enjoyed Sopranos will enjoy this).

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

I love this feature of Netflix. There are "Redbox" kiosks around town here where you can rent a movie from a vending machine for 1 dollar a day but I hate them. I spent a whole month's worth of netflix subscription on forgetting to return a movie. I'll never use redbox again but i have been watching the hell out of netflix instant.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

WRT the PS3 disc, I have it and noticed that not all of the movies in my "watch instantly" queue are available for me to watch via the PS3. In fact, a lot of them arent, wtf is going on here.

A quick example is My Cousin Vinny, that is available to watch instantly on the netflix site, but I can't watch it on my PS3 afaik. This was a real buzzkill as for some reason I had an intense urge to watch this classic comedy the day my disc arrived in the mail.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but "The Coupling" BBC TV show is pretty great, like a raunchier Friends, though the laugh track is kind of annoying.

Re: Netflix "Watch Instantly"

The PS3 disc is awesome.

-The interface is simple.
-You can browse movies not in your queue, but there isn't the ability to search by title which is kinda crappy and hopefully will be added.
-Obviously it is going to depend heavily on your internet connection, but in my limited experience it has been no more than 10-15 seconds of buffering before start.

Hardly ever noticed the laugh track because I was laughing so hard myself. Really, really funny stuff.

In HD as well. The show is very fun, well done, and brews to become an epic story. I recommend everybody give it a whirl. I would like to be Hawkins one day.

I tried to get into it, but the action adventure they tried to mix in always seemed pretty bad. I like the premise though so I'll likely give it another shot.

I've been watching while grinding and just hit the first serious New Bern story-arc. Those 4 episodes are so amazing, I left them on my DVR for a year and watched them over and over. It's been a while since I've seen the whole thing, so I forgot how good the pre-Bern episodes were.

I certainly would. The first 10(ish) eps are kind of disjointed, taking on a more survivalist aspect. Later in the first season, the "real" story really starts to develop (although lol more action adventure)

Yeah, the newbern leadup, revelation, and showdown was very well done, and constantino plays a believable villain. The beauty of the show is in the initial isolation of the town. I never really gave thought to the fact that the entire country was in turmoil, and different cities are reacting to it in different ways. The small town nature of Jericho, and having a competent leader, is why it went so well. So how they gradually unfolded the tapestry of New United States was just fun to watch, and reminds me a bit of Battlestar Galactica.

If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch the BSG miniseries. That is enough to know whether you'll enjoy the series or not. It's perfect for 3 seasons.
