just watched the parking lot movie, mostly agreed with CSC here. I remembered the discussion on here and was expecting to be pretty skeptical of their portrayal but I really liked it and also really liked most of the guys

Also, wasn't the movie trying to show how these smart, beta-type individuals were kind of a little screwed up in the head and therefore working for less than $10/hour and had low self-esteem both in themselves and attached to working there and their response was to try to generate this fake pride, and it results in them doing some bizarre stuff. The attendants were the heroes, obviously, but part of the documentary was showing that they were flawed heroes. I mean jesus, did you watch their faces when they talked about seeing someone they knew while on the job? You should certainly get more out of this movie than, "parking lot attendants are heroes" or that it was just a promotional video for the CPL. You should also see more than "CPL attendants are a bunch of over-educated vindictive jerks." I mean, they are, but they're so much more too.

As an aside, why didn't they build a gate to let people out?

It's been a while since I've typed the letter "cue". I'm going to see how long I can keep it up.

There is a scene where a stick of pepperoni causes a big hullabaloo in 'Trailer Park Boys' while I was eating a pepperoni stick. I'm pretty sure I bought it before watching any episodes, so I wasn't subliminally controlled into buying one through secret messages or anything. Anyways, I bring this up because I never would have heard of 'The Trailer Park Boys' (Canada TV show) if it weren't for Netflix and it is pretty darn funny at times. I recommend both the series and the movies.
oh wow they have the whole series on watch instantly now. it used to be just the movies. trailer park boys is amazing.

omgomgomg mysterious cities of gold!

disclaimer: other than the first episode, which i watched last night, i haven't seen this since it was on nickelodeon when i was ~8, so this is probably more a nostalgia thing than a "wow, this was a great cartoon" thing.

the theme song still kills me though: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA la laaaa la laaaaa / looking for the ciiiiiiities / the cities of gooooold!

omgomgomg2 only the strong!

disclaimer2: i've never seen it all the way through but from what i have seen, it's like karate kid * stand and deliver + capoeira - anything resembling good writing. my attachment here may be that i took capoeira classes for about six months in college -- fun and a phenomenal workout, but mayhap not so useful in a bar brawl.

anyway, if you ever wondered where that mazda "zoom zoom" song came from, this movie provides the answer.

Since nobody answered me I just thought I'd give it a go. ****ing twisted man. If you like demented horror movies and appreciate good cinematography, check it out.

I watched Sin Nombre last night. That movie bored the **** out of me. I can understand why lame ****ing critics liked it, but it is so predictable. I'm revising my rating system after giving way too many high grades starting out, and I would give it a 2. If you watch it and don't think it is absurd I will gladly kick you in the nuts. A 3 is probably acceptable (with explanation), but that is a seriously underwhelming movie.

Yeah I didn't think it was that good either. Best part was the topless scene about 10 mins in.

Cube 2: Hypercube - I liked the original Cube, but Cube Zero is pretty terrible and I had similar expectations for this one. Movie follows the same basic premise as the original: several strangers wake up in cubed rooms with doors on the 6 flat surfaces in each room, all doors leading to identical cubed rooms. Only this time, the sweet traps from the original are gone, the acting is even worse, and the ending is completely awful. 2/5, and that's probably generous I just tend to like these kinds of movies

Runaway Train - I liked this movie alot. Eric Roberts and Jon Voight both give great performances; Voight's in particular was amazing. Some awesome cheesy dialogue is combined with a bunch of intense moments, and the final scene is pretty great. 4/5

Moon - Seems like everyone itt has seen this by now, so I'll just say that I thought it was a pretty sweet movie. 4/5

Rewatched Ponyo last night cause I had a -$11k day and felt like Miyazaki would be able to remove my consciousness from our world for a little while. It worked. Wanted to watch Laputa but I have no clue where I put that DVD, so I went with the instant-available Ponyo.

More people should watch Miyazaki's movies.

Anyone seen Black Snake Moan? It looks like its #2 on the instantwatcher most popular list. RT ratings look somewhat low (not that this particularly matters) but I remember wanting to see this.

There's a great documentary that is in response to Super Size Me called FatHead ... I've watched half of it so far and it's really good....

Also, I tried watching Freakanomics and couldn't get past the first 15 minutes --- it's just so obvious and ******ed and they must obviously make their movie geared towards the stupid people on earth. Nothing about their observations were freaky. To me....a good freakanomics observation is that of the law that bans cell phone texting in cars. It actually creates more havoc on the roads because people hide their cell phones from the cops and text on the seat of their car and it's more dangerous. The first 15 minutes of Freakanomics were just dumb, very dumb.

Also, does anyone know when 30 Rock season 5 is gonna make it to watch now ?

seriously? I watched it and its ****ing terrible. Half of the movie is two people talking about logic puzzles, with a murder just the backdrop so these two idiots can keep talking. Things get weirder, but not more interesting after that. The end is just a bunch of random **** that is completely unguessable, and makes the first 90% of the movie useless.

like really, it was dreadful. It has decent production value, i guess. 2/10.

The trump card of horrible, Troll 2, is currently on instant view.

And I'll second the thumbs-up for Trailer Park Boys. Saw it a couple years ago, and have watched most of them again since they came back to instant. Season 3, episode 8 is one of the funniest episodes of any sitcom ever, though I suppose you need to know the characters before jumping straight to that one.
