Ya I was confused by the sepinwall hate for Ozark. Decided to watch when he complained about the premise which I thought sounded entertaining. It's not outstanding but definitely worth viewing this time of year.

There's a black mirror thread also. Great show but really gives me the creeps. New eps in October which are supposed to be the darkest yet.

I hate how all the comedian specials now have to have some kind of unfunny shtick for the first 5 or 10 minutes before they get to the standup.

Through first 2 episodes of Ozark. Pretty good so far with some Breaking Bad-like qualities.

Finished Ozark

Spoiler:
thought it was good enough for a watch. My problem is that I can see other shows in it and all the progressions. It's like Weeds meets Breaking Bad and they cover like half of each show in 10 episodes, but with realistic strip club scenes. It's probably because he starts off as a major criminal so early in the show, but everything progressed really fast. If this show goes 3/4 seasons, he'll have to secretly take over Vegas, or become 2nd in command to the rival/largest cartel.

Really enjoyed Ari Shaffirs Double Negative stand up. He's a smart, funny dude with great timing.

I just realised I have seen Catastrophe and quite enjoyed it, for some reason the name didn't click. Started watching The Handmaid's Tale and it's pretty hard to not binge it, very very good!

Come on!
Spoiler:
With the first part: He instead gets another bigger problem to deal with,
the redneck drug dealers.

With the second part: That death was foreshadowed by him saying "unless one of the investors suddenly die in the next month, no one's gonna notice anything". I.e. her dying was actually the problem, it didn't solve anything for him -- rather, suddenly they needed to deal with the son wanting to withdraw money.

My only issue with the 2nd part was that it was fairly obvious exactly what was coming. Overall, I thought the season was great and can't wait for more.

Watched Ozark this week and really enjoyed it. Very well done and easy to stay interested in. Sure there is lots of manufactured drama and situations that seem very far fetched but that is what any show is nowadays. Just suspend belief and it is a very fun ride.

Will definitely watch the next season if there is one.

Like I said suspend your logic but this little twist was really WTF

Spoiler:
The Hillbillys (Snells) wouldn't touch Bateman because they thought he might be untouchable and then they blow away the main guy and his bodyguard and just shrug it off

Iirc the head Snell seemed upset with his wife after that.

Two episodes into 13 Reasons Why and it's a terrible high school soap opera. Does it get better?

I've heard a few people say that the beginning is horrible, but the last few episodes are actually quite good.

Ozark is awesome. Bateman really does have that relaxed smart ass dickhole vibe cornered.

Really into Scam City currently. Guy travels the globe with hidden cameras to show how tourists get fleeced (and possibly harmed) and really digging into it. Very eye-opening and informative. Scary stuff out there.

I would disagree and almost argue the reverse. I only stuck it out because I was hoping there might be some interesting big reveal, but nope, just craps out in the most predictable way one would think from reading 1 sentence about the show. I recommend abandoning.

Not only that, but...

Spoiler:
Snell tells Byrde that, since he's in a partnership with them (and has been for all of 30 seconds), they'll protect him like he's one of their own--against the other people they're in a partnership with. I guess this leads to season 2's storyline; the uneasy alliance of the Byrdes and the Snells as the cartel invades.
Still... overall a binge-worthy show.

Forced myself through the first episodes of GLOW and Scam City. Glow was meh, Scam City felt like a scam. Won't be continuing with either.
