I used to work for an insurance company, and we'd do this, too. The only ones I can remember offhand are Cinderella Rodriguez, Man-Fat Dong, and N. A. Palm.

Unusual Names
Gareth Azhrai
Melchizedek
Jerikka
|
Gareth was a knight of the round table in Arthurian legend.
Melchizedek is the name of the king in the well-known book The Alchemist
I know a girl with the 3rd name above though its spelled Jerica. I think its a very pretty name.

Re: names, good and bad
--I wanted to name my daughter Cosette (from Les Miserables), but it rhymes with my last name, and that would just be too much for a little kid to fade.
--My mother's friend named her daughters Laura and Heidi. Trouble with that is, I always thought of them as "Laurel and Hardy". It didn't help that Laura was thin and Heidi was heavy. BTW, they were the sluttiest drama queens I ever knew.

Re: names, good and bad
Some of you guys like really. boring. names.
I am Astrid. My sister likes to tease me that it is an old lady name like "Esther," but I think it's nice. Plus, never going by my last initial is awesome.
Girl names I really like are
Olivia, with the nickname Liv
Theadora, pronounced the Dutch way, Tay-UH-dor-a, Thea for short

As...tird.
Not to be repetitive or anything but I also know a girl named Theodora. She goes by Teddi which I think is pretty cool. You can also pull out the full name for formal occasions.
What do you guys think of the name Dekar (pronounced like black 'n DECKER) for a guy's name?

Oh, believe me, I've heard at all. When I was younger I went by the nickname "Trida" which inevitably transformed into Turd-a, but usually (semi-)affectionately.
I get "asteroid" a lot, and one time "ostrich".

Re: names, good and bad
The only thing about Jamie that pisses me off is when people named Jamie misspell their own name "Jaime." It puts me on tilt because that's "hi-may" in Spanish.
LOL at people still liking Jordan. What an overused, awful, brain-dead name at this point. For girls it's a lazy stripper/porn star, and for guys it's another one in that douchey trend of Carter, Tucker, Taylor, and Ashton where they need to join a prep school and pop their collars.
My favorite name for a boy is Jones (my close friend named his son Jones 2 years ago) and I also like Luke and Jack (go Los Feliz Slim on the Jack). I would also accept Dexter, athough because of the TV show that's a tough sell.
For girls I like Melody, Emily, Lila, and Allison.
More names like Jordan that need to be put out to pasture: Courtney, Jenna, Melissa, Cody, Devon, and Parker.

Re: names, good and bad
I'm firmly against names that are other common nouns, such as Hope and Summer and Joy and, as PJ said, Melody. They just sound silly to me.

My nephews are named Brooks and Braden, my nieces Tessa Grace and Quinn Amelia. A little cutesie I guess but they're all so adorable it doesn't matter.

Re: names, good and bad
I really don't like the names my cousins are naming their kids, there's Destiny Dawn and Autumn Jewel, which just sounds really cheesy to me, then there Drake and Jakin, which aren't as bad, and then they named on Alexander, which I was surprised cause it's so normal, then i found out they're calling him Xander. The most normal in the family are Xavier, Hunter and Sebastien.

One time I'm looking at the name list, see a name, and do a double take. I ask the mother of the child how to pronounce her daughter's name. She looks at me all offended, rolls her eyes and says:
"Eu-reen" Like, how else would you pronounce it?
Of course, it was spelled, "urine."

a kid in one of my mom's elementary school classes was named Enis, pronounced just like penis but without the p. how can you not expect your kid to get ridiculed mercilessly with a name like that?

I remember getting his basketball card when I was kid and thinking wtf. Seriously, who names their kid God? Those are some sick expectations to live up to.
