Any parents that name a daughter this have to turn her loose somewhere in Africa when she hits 18.

Dominic, I just had a moment from this post where I just paused. I basically almost crapped myself. Because I had it scrolled so I could read "names that guarantee your daughter will be a slut" and during the second before my mouse hit the scroll arrow I was thinking Shannon and Amber to myself. Those two were by far the biggest sluts at my Kansas High school, and being a legitimate pretty conservative place at the time that was creepily absent of sluts, those two were most likely the only ones in my class who slept with more than ten guys during high school. I then proceded to hit the scroll button and when two out of the three names were Shannon and Amber I spaced out in zomg fashion for a good 5 seconds.

In a haze the other night I thought Sol (the spanish word for Sun) was the perfect girl name... Then I figured most people would just be calling her Saul, so I've found some variations... Solaina

Both women I've known called Holly have been hot.

'Claire' is my nemesis name. I've known so many women called Claire, had something going with two of them, both ending badly. Consequently, I'm very wary of any new women I meet called Claire.

I've heard this same story from about 15 different people, with slight variations, e.g. "My (friend/relative/significant other) who is a (teacher/doctor/landlord) has a (student/patient/tenant) named Orangjello or Lemonjello. Until I actually see birth certificates with these names on them, I'm declaring it an urban legend.

1) Olivia - Just a gorgeous name, period.

2) Laura - the best 2-syllable name ever. The more casual "Laurie," however, is not.

3) Samantha - Very pretty name, and one of the few that when shortened to a nickname - "Sam" - is still pretty darn cute.

4) Sarah - Apparently, Jews are good at naming chicks.

5) Sofia - This one has fallen out of fashion over the last few years, but it's still a beautiful-sounding name.

6) Rachel - Like I said...Jews and names go together.

7) Jessica - Docked a few points for over-use, but still a gorgeous name.

8) Isabelle/Isabella - Spanish flavor always works.

9) Katerina/Katherine - but only the K name, not the C ones, for some odd reason. And shortening it to "Kathy" is awful.

10) Siobhán - Some Celtic madness for the last name on the list. Bonus points if you know how to actually pronounce it.

The worst-sounding names for girls:

Myrtle
Gertrude
Blanche
Ida
Eunice

And the three names that will guarantee your daughter will grow up to be a sl00t:

Shannon
Amber
Heather
I like these. Not a big fan of Laura, I would substitute Emily, always liked it. Agree with the sloot names for sure. Flowing with the last name is important.
Cassidy flows with my last name, is a Grateful Dead song, and I dug it. Althea was actually considered, but couldn't pull the trigger. Liked Scarlett before Johannsen, now it will be benign. I've given Sofia some thought, I picture Coppola, whom I like a lot and find the name very feminine and pretty. I like Sara without the H, but then again I'm sticking with the Dylan/Dead references One old , old name I kind of like is Estelle. Don't know why, but I would consider it. Good list.

Son was definitely going to be Maximus before Gladiator came out. Family name, plus it flows with last name which is similar to Antonius, just a little different.

To clarify, the name does not sound like So-line-ah, but So-lang (silent g/h)-ya the silent g/h should produce a nasal sound. do you like it?

Snopes knows of at least one Lemongello, but it's spelled differently.

I'm with you on Olivia and Laura. Also a big fan of Lauren. Another personal favorite is Jordan, and I like it for boys or girls.

I think its funny that all of your names from the bad list typically belong to someone who is currently over the age of 50.

I kind of wanted to name my daughter Marietta Georgia [last name] to honor where she was conceived, but that idea got nixed pretty quickly.

I remember reading about Lemonjello and Orangejello several years ago in some chain email, and now apparently there's a Lemonjello and Orangejello who went to school near me. But after hearing several other people talk about Lemonjellos and Orangejellos who went to school with or near them, I'm convinced that none of them actually exist. That or black people really really suck at naming their kids.

One time I'm looking at the name list, see a name, and do a double take. I ask the mother of the child how to pronounce her daughter's name. She looks at me all offended, rolls her eyes and says:

"Eu-reen" Like, how else would you pronounce it?

Of course, it was spelled, "urine."
One of my more trustworthy friends says he knows a girl named "Shi-thead", which obviously is spelled ****head. I choose to believe this one exists because it would be so awesome if true.

Here's a silly name story. Years ago a friend of the family told me a story about a woman that had a baby in a taxi outside one of his stores. Supposedly the kid was named
"Taxina" LOL. Probably BS, but it seemed like a true story at the time. Guy was kind of a
joker though.

We must have grown up near each other, those kids are from Lake County IL, at least thats what a teachers aid I know told me, I put the chances at 1 % that she would lie.

My GF and I love the name Amelia, its old school, but pretty
