You'll be better off in life not becoming a cop. FBI is cool, CIA, Homeland Security or Secret Service is cool, anything but a 50 NicksDad!

also lol @ demanding respect when officers abuse their power, yell at kids on the street, beat people, shoot dogs, waste millions of taxpayer dollars, and a million other things while barely performing their real duties.

I hate assuming but that's all I can do right now. (Yes I'll Google it in a minute) But I believe FBI and CIA require a bachelors degree. I also think I might be too old for them.

I'm 39 and only have about 40 credit hours. I did serve in the USAF and have an honorable discharge.

I have heard from a lot of people that almost everyone who becomes a police officer changes. If the only change I make is a little less gullible then that will be a good thing. I don't know how I wouldn't be less gullible and be an effective officer. Not to say that I'm totally gullible, I just try really hard to see the best in people and give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm certain I won't go on the take. I'm really not like that and don't see how I could become that way.

I read most of this thread. I found the OP to be interesting, and common. I'm not going to get involved with this thread about any police matters though.

I just wanted to say that I have been a police officer for 3.5 years in a small department. At first I loved it as it was my dream job. Now, I hate working nights all the time. I hate coming to work and waiting. Waiting for a call. I'm constantly bored. I'm constantly tired. I can't stand most of the people I work with. I want more for my life, and I want a normal life. This job isn't for everyone. I'm glad I did it, but I'm ready to move on.

Good Luck to NicksDad, I hope you get hired and enjoy it. I know I'd enjoy it 100% more if I was in a big department. I'm trying to get out, but if I ever decide to get back in, it will be for a big department, not this little po-dunk BS of wannabe glorified security officers.

respect you wanting to be a cop. Have you considered the fire department? Plenty of action and you get to help people. Folks don't shoot at firemen either. About the same pay and benefits. Bonus points for shiny trucks and sliding down poles! I've known a few firemen and a few cops-firemen were more fun and overall better guy's. Poker in the firehouse might be +EV also. Just a thought.
