My Bigfoot/Yeti Story My Bigfoot/Yeti Story

So, here it goes. I hope that I don't encounter any trouble by posting this story, as most everything that occurs in a combat zone is deemed unspeakable, per opsec (operational security), but f*** it. I will give a little foundation for the story and then delve into the "encounter."

During my second deployment to Afghanistan from May 2008-June 2009 I was stationed in the Kunar Province. It is a province in the northeastern part of the country, contains the lower end of the Hindu Kush Mountains and borders Pakistan. It is an extremely volatile region. My first deployment was also in the Kunar but I was in a valley called the Korengal, which is basically hell. During my second deployment, my platoon bounced around between 3 different areas within the province. We were a field artillery unit but were only placed on fire support with our arty pieces for the first 4 months of deployment. The other 8 months we were attached to various infantry units doing counter-insurgency missions.

I saw a lot of weird/unexplainable things during my deployments, such as lights in the sky that were unidentifiable and moved erratically. We also talked to many villagers in some of the surrounding valleys who constantly referred to what our translators could only translate into English as "Black Men." These Black Men were apparently huge bipedal animals who would devour shepherd's livestock and scavenge villages at night. During my first deployment we would laugh our asses off at the notion of these "Black Men" existing, chalking up the occurrences described as random acts by other animals. It wasn't until my second deployment that I began to question the validity of the villager's claims.

About halfway through the deployment we were placed with a Ranger unit to provide overwatch while they captured/detained/killed an HVT (high value target). This occurred in a valley called the Pech River Valley. According to intelligence the HVT was holed up in a cave on one of the mountainsides above a village that had given us problems in the past. My platoon, along with an Air Force JTAC (dude who calls in airstrikes) and a squad of Marines were choppered in to the valley and we took our overwatch position. The Rangers came into the valley in their humvees, which are literally the bare skeleton of a humvee. The humvees we rode around in were up-armored and could withstand the blast of a small I.E.D. The humvees Rangers ride around in are not armored and have no canopy at all, it's really crazy to think about, a decent sized I.E.D. would blow the vehicle to kingdom come.

The operation went fairly smooth and we started our hike down to the base of the valley, which took about 3 hours, while the Ranger unit scoured the cave the HVT was in for whatever it is they needed. We were picked up by Black Hawks and began our trip back to a F.O.B. located at the mouth of the valley when our radio operator started picking up chatter. There was a T.I.C. (troops in contact) occurring in our area. It was the Ranger Unit and our radio operator couldn't readily discern what was happening. We reached the F.O.B. and were sitting on the Landing Zone getting our debriefing and conducting sensitive items checks when the Ranger Unit finally rolled in. They parked close to us and all of them appeared to be shaken up, badly. Seeing any combat soldier shaken up is a rare occurrence, with the exception of a soldier fatality, of course. The shooting, explosions and general air of war builds a numbness inside you after a while that takes a lot to penetrate.

Well, these guys looked like they had just seen a ghost. One of the humvees was parked in a way where I could see the bed of the vehicle and there were two large feet sticking out of the back by about 3 feet. Keep in mind the bed of one of these humvees is fairly long to begin with. I picked up my gear and started to head to the B-Hut we were sleeping in for the night and purposefully walked as close as I could to the humvee. The two Rangers standing at the back were silent as they ate some M.R.E.s. I was about three feet away and clearly saw the feet and about 4 feet of the body, all legs. The fur was very dark and thick and it blanketed everything and there was blood draining out of a bullet wound on what could be called the upper calf. A tarp covered what I can only estimate to be the other 5-6 feet of the being. So in total, by my rough estimate, the creature was around 9 feet tall and was most definitely bipedal. Keep in mind this was around 1-2 in the morning and Afghan nights are dark. I was looking through my night vision goggles the whole time. One thing I am sure of is that what I saw laying in the back of that humvee was no man.

Was this a Bigfoot/Yeti? I think it was but I will never know for sure as that night was never talked about again and the Rangers left about 20 minutes after I got to my rack. About 6 months after I got back my father told me that an alleged Air Force pilot had called into some radio show and told a story about flying a bigfoot out of Afghanistan. I don't know if that story has any relation to what I saw or not. I couldn't find an article about the radio show call in but it would've fit into the same time frame.

So, that is my experience.

Why didnt you ask to see it? What do you think happened to it? Why would the military want to hide the biggest zoological discovery in history? What are the odds its just part of some agenda to keep the local people afraid, and what you saw was a prop? (there have been military missions in the past to keep the locals afraid when they have goofy superstitions). Why arent there pics and vids of it on the internet, when lots of other stuff from the area end up "getting out"?

thanks for sharing!!!

What did you and whoever else saw it conclude afterwards? Why did nobody ask?

Not the faintest ideaWhy would the military want to hide the biggest zoological discovery in history? One thing I learned during my time in combat is that money drives everything. I spent 2 months guarding a poppy field only to see contractors harvest it for a U.S. pharmaceutical company. Who knows why they would hide it? What are the odds its just part of some agenda to keep the local people afraid, and what you saw was a prop? It was 100% a living entity....before it was killed. The blood was real and I know what blood coming out of a wound looks like.(there have been military missions in the past to keep the locals afraid when they have goofy superstitions). Why arent there pics and vids of it on the internet, when lots of other stuff from the area end up "getting out"?I would assume encounters aren't a common occurrence. I have talked with other veterans about this incident and all of them laughed at me, so I would venture to say an experience like mine is a rarity

thanks for sharing!!!

wow, OP is crazy. Yeti? It was clearly a Barmanou and obviously the military wanted it for their cyborg-Barmanou program. Probably the reason for the mission. Watch out Putin.

Most of my platoon had already gone into the B-Huts by the time the Rangers pulled back in. I always smoked around 10 cigarettes after a mission so I was in the process of doing that. Only a couple of us were still in the LZ when they pulled in. The one and only conversation I had about the incident was with my Squad Leader the next morning. It went something like this:

Me: "Did you see what those Rangers brought in last night?"
Him: "Yep."
Me: "And...?"
Him: "Don't know, don't care. Forget about it."

What if it was a Yeti dressed in a tall guy suit and Max just mistook it for Yeti because of the dark?

Max, what was SOP for human kills? Like if they had shot a really tall Afghani, would they have picked him up? That might be a really stupid question, but I dunno what gets done with the bodies of the enemies. Not asking cuz I dont believe you, just cuz if thats not what gets done, then clearly it makes it more unlikely thats what it was.

It isn't a concern of mine whether or not the story is believed or not. I know what I saw and it wasn't a man. Me saying it was 9 feet tall is a rough estimate, it may have well been close to 10 and the hair was not human. Factoring in the demeanor of the Rangers it strongly points to something abnormal.

Search the body for intel possibly snap a picture and then leave it unless it was the HVT I believe.

No, we would leave kills where they were.

If I am starting a thread I prefer to make the OP as detailed as possible, but I can understand why you would think that.

in the LC thread you said you were going to talk to some of your mates who were there before posting it. What did you ask them about the incident, and what was their response? Like what do they feel about the whole thing
