Re: Moving out on my own. Advice?

Been living on my own for a year and a half starting with 0 savings and no contacts. It's rough at first depending on your situation. What's your financial situation?

I'd definitely recommend basic stuff like staying on REALLY good terms with landlord, get receipts for everything, keep lease in a safe spot and make copies, and stay on good/friendly terms with neighbors. (last one can really help you out in the long run)

TBH the ****tiest thing to deal with when living on your own is roommates, so you're already way ahead of the game.

Financially im very well set at 50k+ yearly steady and im only 22, no kids, no other obligations or anything other than my Dog(shepard/lab). What worries me is that people will see im young and try to take advantage assuming I wont know any better.

I will make sure I buy a safe to store important documents in such as the lease and I will make sure to be very friendly with the neighbors.

Should I buy a gun? lol

Re: Moving out on my own. Advice?

you don't need a safe if your important documents consist of a standard apartment lease. if you want one for whatever reason or to store live poker cash, etc. go ahead

just scan that stuff and keep it online or if you're super paranoid get a safe deposit box.

gun probably unnecessary if you live in a relatively safe area, but obv thats a cultural thing so if you want a gun get one, but theres definitely no move into an apartment buy a gun thing

ok haha, I suppose the dog will be enough protection, but yeah the safe would be for cash also. After hearing stories like the Johnathan duhamel story I just get paranoid about people following me back home. Its a very safe city but it very hard for me to trust anybody which always has me paranoid

I'm pretty sure Duhamel got pistol whipped and a gun put to his head. He ended up opening the safe and giving them everything if I remember correctly. If someone follows you then does a home invasion and puts a gun to your head, are you just going to say, Haha jokes on you money is in safe LDO? I don't think so.

Give them the money, hope you don't end up murdered and contact the police ASAP. Suggesting a safe would keep you're money secure in this situation is laughable and ignorant.

And unless your dog is trained to attack it probably wont be much help. You're just being paranoid though keep receipts for tax purposes and live your life. How scared can you be of living by yourself at 22? Man up

Don't buy more place settings than you absolutely need. You're more likely to do the dishes if you need them to eat from than if you can just keep getting them from the cupboard. In the same vein, get enough underwear to have a cushion between laundry days...

Never ever ever let your car insurance run out. Even for 1 day. You'll jump a tier and be screwed for years. Turn in your plates and take the car off the road if you have to, but don't let the insurance run out.

Oooh ok, like dishes for mainly decorative purpose. I see what your saying.

Yeah I agree. You can never EVER have enough pairs of socks or underwear
