Inspired by the MLYLT vs 27 thread, myself and ec_outlaw are also undertaking a weight loss bet. This thread is obviously designed for motivation and to entertain the OOT masses on some level. Good natured heckling encouraged.

Basics:

We are both looking to lose about 25 pounds. He's starting at 222 and his goal weight is 195. I'm starting around 160 (my weight on Tuesday; I forgot to weigh myself this morning because I'm a dumb ass operating on about 4 hours of sleep) with a goal weight of 135. Because I have a higher percentage of my total body weight to lose, I get an extra month. He has 3 months to hit his target, I have 4.

Stakes:

Meeting and maintaining goal weight until the end of the bet: $300

Meeting but not maintaining goal weight until the end of the bet: $150

If neither of us hit our goal weight, $150 to the person who lost the highest percentage towards their goal.

Any ties are a push.

May the best (wo)man win.

SGT RJ's big fat weight history:

As an adult, other than when I was forced to exercise regularly while in the service, I've struggled with my weight. This is because I like to eat crap and am lazy as ****. Things got out of control when I was working on my dissertation, as I basically just sat around the apartment stressing out over my failure to do any real work and eating. Peak weight was around 220-225. I'm a 62.5" female (39 yo), so that's pretty ****ing fat.

I lost a bit of it back in '11 or '12 then got lazy again and gained most of it back. The spring after I started working again (so '14, I think), I finally had enough and have been slowly losing ever since. My lowest has been 156.

I've stalled out the last several months. Again, I'm incredibly lazy. 150s is still way too heavy for a short female. These pics are obviously a bit old but for reference: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=464. Will post a scale shot and recent photo tomorrow.

So the entire purpose of this for me is to kick start my lazy ass back into gear again.

Why I'll win:

1) I always did enjoy competition.

2) I've recently been promoted to full time at work, and I tend to be more disciplined the less I'm just hanging out at home.

3) I'll be doing IF (intermittent fasting) as my primary means of calorie control. I'll fast 2-3 days a week. I find this easier then trying to hit something like 1200 calories daily, and it helps with hunger control as well.

I know I can do this, and with this exterior motivator, it will be accomplished. Also ec is an egregiously elephantine egret so should be no problem to beat him.

Today is day 1. I weighed in at 222.2 this morning. I have to be 195 by Oct 15, and still be there on Nov 15. RJ has to be 135 on Nov 15.

Here's my good deed for the day!

SGT RJ:

I did IF for 18+ months. Just do a cursory search of a thread I started in H&F with a before/after in my first/last post in log. Long story short it works great if you're lazy. I didn't do any cardio/got shredded in the end. Yes counting calories is key, and no just 'fasting 2-3' days at a time isn't the way to do it you'll just mess with your metabolism/make yourself miserable. You will burn out I guarantee it, especially if you're a self-confessed person with lack of discipline.

Highly encourage you to check out Martin Berkhan's site/my H&F Log for how to do it properly. I'll even do the math for you:

25 pounds 4 months. -6.25/month. -1.56/week. 3500 calories in a pound. caloric deficit -~5.5k/week needed. Let's say activity level sedentary (the #'s will change if you lead an active lifestyle, for your sake I'm taking your word for being lazy and setting it as this). 160 start weight 39 y/o female who's 5'2 rough TDEE (total daily energy expentiture, your break even caloric intake to maintain your weight) is ~1630. -5.5k/7days = -780 which is ~850 calories a day.

That's a really rough # and I would not advise going that low due to health reasons. It's pretty dumb to try and lose that much weight that fast, especially if your goal is to look good naked (as opposed to just a # on a scale). You'll likely yo-yo back to a higher weight after the bet if you try to do that vicious of a cut; for your own long-term health I would strongly suggest not eating that % below TDEE it's just a really dumb idea. Also, don't do that 24+ hour fast stuff you were talking about in 3). I've done the research on it/tested it myself and cliffs are if you're a newbie don't even go there. You have to do it completely properly and someone who's never IF'd before is 99% likely to F it up. Especially someone who's overweight/not experienced in fasting. (I say that with zero negativity, just trying to look out for your long term health)

Anyhow, if you really want to win you're better off making a diet that is ~1050 calories/day and going for 30-60 minute very light fasted cardio walks in the morning and/or strength training 2-3x/week. Consume all your calories in a 16-hour window (easiest one I do is just break your fast at noon, stop eating at 8pm; your body doesn't need to eat breakfast and will adjust/feel great) If you do strength training just add an extra 150 calories in on those work-out days. I won't even get into much macro cycling etc as it's not needed for the purpose of this bet. Following the words I type will get you to <140 in 4 months I guarantee you.

The way to do this is just make an excel spreadsheet of healthy foods you enjoy eating that give yourself at least 160g/protein a day, 60g/fat, rest carbs to get to that caloric intake to those #'s I said & you'll auto win. Goes without saying if you actually want to do this you must skip the crappy carbs, sugars, processed foods or you will feel hungry/never full. If you eat healthy your body will feel more satiated. If you're truly lazy all you have to do is buy the right foods. Meal prep IF takes about ~15 minutes a day (or does for me). If you're serious about winning, you'll actually look at calories. Why wouldn't you? I just gave you a winning formula and did all the set-up for you cause I've done cutting on IF and wanted to help a random forum stranger out. If you believe in yourself you'd follow this advice (and up your $ wager) It's up to you to put it to use your own willpower and put it to use.

For the record I've been doing IF for some time now and have no problem simply not eating for up to 48 hours.

I feel like this is a perfect indicator of fatties. Unless a woman is getting a sleeve on her leg, seems only fatties have tattoos on the top of their feet.
