Whilst I'm kinda with you on the whole 'they're overthinking this' thing, given a row of 12 stalls in which #1 is occupied are you really going straight into #2 as long as it's clean?

I think I'm at least headed for #3.

Always considered myself an expert of bathroom etiquette, but having started at a new office, I've seen some bizarre results that have me questioning my thought process and need some outside opinions

When you walk into the bathrooms at my new office, there is one side of "fixtures" and one side of sinks. As you walk in, there are three urinals, followed by three regular stalls, and finally one handicapped stall. I have attached an amateur diagram below for clairty

Spoiler:

When I walk into an empty bathroom and need to use a stall, I have been opting for stall 3 (s3). My thought process is that since the first urinal in the bathroom is a child's urinal(CU), the last urinal (u2) is the most popular urinal. I don't want to pick (S1), because it is most likely to be boardered by a walk-in urinal user.

I am old fasionahed and although the handicapped stall (HS) seems the most optimal, I like to leave it reserved for any potential handicapped person who might walk in (though I am not aware of any in the office). I like to think by selecting the 3rd stall, any walk-in stall user will pick S1

However, I have noticed that while using the third stall, an alarming amount of walk-ins pick the handicapped stall. I don't have any hang ups about using a public restroom, but in a world with four stalls, it kinda bothers me that people are picking a bordering stall when they could just go with the 1st stall.

Is my only option to start using stall 1 and accepting the fact that I'll likely share a wall with a urinal user for a short period in exchange for not having to share a wall with a stall user for my duration? Should I concede that there is no such thing as morality in a shared bathroom and just start using the handicapped stall when I'm the first in? Is my stall selection in an empty bathroom sub-optimal? Which would you choose in anticipation that there could be a walk-in stall user?

If your goal is to not have peeps beside you when pooping do not pick S3. S3 is flanked by 2 stalls, doubling your chance this will occur, plus HC is a popular stall.

Most peeps will bypass stall one assuming it has the most activity. If you are in stall 3, you're just begging to have a neighbor.

You have to ask yourself, what is more uncomfortable; pooping next to the urinals(s1 and thereby reducing your chances of a stall neighbor) or pooping with someone in the stall next to you. Personally, I'd choose the latter.

Good luck! =D

Until you people stop parking in regular spots when there's open HC parking spots available, I'll keep using the HS.

You people lol.

Huge correlation between general douchebaggery and using the handicapped stall (if there are others open)

I use to avoid the HS stalls, but it dawned on me.... handicapped people are capable of waiting in line like the rest of us when the bathroom is in use. Why sacrifice the comfort of more space to take care of my business on the off chance a handicap person might have to wait max 5-10 minutes?

I avoid the HC stall not because of deference to the disabled, but because I prefer a smaller space. HC stall is too open, I feel too exposed.

I stick with S3, ride or die, but would definitely harbor a deep and abiding resentment against the HS people.

The frequency of disabled people choosing the HS is lower than what is expected.

I have no probs with anyone using the HC stall but I'd think one of the common points is that maybe they can't always do that. Maybe compromise by pooping quickly.

99% of adults can use these things respectfully. It's kind of like how you're allowed to sit in HC subway seats but elite metro users keep their eyes open so that if anyone hesitates by you for a second you instantly offer your seat. As someone who's had invisible disabilities in the past I shouldn't have to share my life story with a stranger for a seat. Somebody with crohns or smth shouldn't have to talk about their pooping every day either.

I could see that argument if every stall is occupied and someone has to wait. If you're the only one in the restroom and you choose the handicap stall then you're potentially making someone wait for you despite every other stall being open and it being very easy for both people to be accommodated.

As a HC user, I use a walker, and it is not possible to fit the walker into a regular sized stall. If the HC stall is in use, I'm forced to leave my walker outside the stall I'm using. If the bathroom is crowded, this causes all manner of bitching.

I'm going to assume that the handicapped stall is used more frequently by non-handicapped people in the ladies' room, because some women will cart two or three kiddies into the handicapped stall. They fit better.

I'm not going to get irritated at anyone using the stall, but I don't want anyone on my case about my walker, either. Live and let live, I say. Just stay the hell out of my face.

Holy **** I couldn't imagine someone griping about a walker. I believe you but holy ****. That's like an episode of WWYD or something.

I don't have any first hand knowledge, but all reports I've received indicate that in public restrooms women revert to being savages in regards to cleanliness and common courtesy.

I have heard the same.

I also noticed that the toilet in the HC stall in my office is at a different, much more annoying height for my comfort.

I go stall 1 pretty much every time. No major reasoning, I just like it.

Funny you mention invisible disease as I actually do suffer from one (Ulcerative colitis, same symptoms as Crohn's), so can completely understand not wanting to share a life story. With that said I fail to see how that's relevant to use of a HS stall? Not to mention having an invisible disease still doesn't mean you're entitled to having access to a HC stall on demand.

Priority seating on a subway is a completely different issue as it becomes a safety issue if someone requiring use of the seat is forced to stand. Access to HC stall isn't a safety issue as they can wait 5-10 min as previously mentioned to use the stall... unfortunately the subway can't check all passengers are ready before it starts moving again.

You do realize how much of a piece of **** you sound like right?
05-06-2017 , 06:12 PM
So if a public restroom is a two-staller and the regular stall is occupied I should wait for it to free up on the off chance someone more deserving comes along?
