This is correct, but not the only reason why they do this. Quality bonus payments are what's driving a lot of insurers to offer free screenings and incentives to patients. If they can show through a series of standardized measures that they provide quality care to their patients, they get higher reimbursement, which makes them more money. Thank Obamacare for that.
Healthy people leading to lower costs to insurance companies works well in single payer systems where you have to care the patient for life. In the US, a lot of people go from one insurance company to another every year, so insurance companies don't always care about the long-term costs.
Bottom line for LFS: likely not a scam, go get your check-up and your free $100.
