I've almost left a store after paying and before receiving my goods before.

ATM users,

Apparently lots of people forget to take their money!

Not sure over what time period this article is referring to, but:
Quote:
Incredible as it seems, it could be as many as half a million people who failed to remove the money and failed to report it. The number of customers affected at RBS, which is 82pc owned by the taxpayer, is estimated at 300,000 and with £10 million owed - an average of £33 each. HSBC is less advanced in contacting customers but made an early estimate that £8 milllion may be owed. It points out that it has fewer cash machines than RBS and therefore a smaller number of customers would be affected.
This seems crazy to me!

I've walked off from a few video poker machines without cashing out credits. I was pretty fortunate to remember and get back to all but one before someone cashed them out. I eventually figured out to get the ticket before pulling my players card and calculating how much coin-in I had run through. Duh!

I haven't used an ATM in >25 years, so I have avoided that possibility.

Masked Man,

Leaving money at the ATM is quite awkward. I typically return and put additional cash in the dispenser to mitigate any embarrassment

some people leave their receipts at the atm

In the UK most (all?) atm's make you remove your card before it will give you the money.

I have put the card back in my wallet and started to walk off without the money before.

I've left money in the cash drawer after getting cash back at self-checkouts at grocery stores a few times. I've gone back a couple times soon after (like easily less than 5 minutes) and it's of course gone, no insight/help from the employee watching the machines regarding where it went. Once I turned around and went back right away, before walking out of the store, to the machine I was using and asked the ~50yo woman using it now if she had seen my $. She acted pissed off but took the $20 out of her wallet and gave it to me. She had put the money in her wallet less than 15 seconds after I had left it there.

I don't know if most people are like me or what, but if I find cash somewhere where the person who lost it has a reasonable chance of coming back for it (like a self-checkout or ATM) I just leave it. I don't consider cash fair game unless it's like blowing around on a street with no one around and it's clear whoever lost it isn't going to find it.

I can't imagine having that kind of money and actually needing to go to an atm and grabbing $400.

I'd guess the opposite is true...seems like most people don't carry much cash at all, especially these days.

Just spent an hour rereading Spaceman's AMA and it's, like, great. Also great for outing losers/jerks. Meep

Subbed, but I have no other low content today.

My low content: I just ate a cupcake using (for the first time) the expert method of splitting it in half, then flipping the top to put the frosting in the middle.

My opinion: this method is unambiguously better than eating a cupcake the "regular" way.

Most hookers still don't take American Express.

Then you would think he could afford a higher priced hooker--or a dozen.

That could never happen to me because from the moment they gave it to me I'd be thinking about it and looking at it.

I can't imagine how someone with 100m would keep it in a checking account. What a waste of interest.

There are interest-bearing checking accounts.
