I'm not that much older than most of you, but didn't like the Joker movie and wasn't going to see this one mainly because I found the knife-to-mouth monologues and crowd-slaughtering storylines excessive, indulgent, and basically in poor taste for a movie which is obviously going to be seen by every child in the country. I was further offended that people enjoyed that "chilling" violence so much they missed how otherwise horrible and nonsensical that movie was.
Or are we still going with the "this could have happened at any movie" line?
And remember, no trolling--it's in the rules.

Do some googling on proximate and ultimate causation and you will get your answer.

That's a gross misunderstanding of TDK and a terrible argument. Blaming the movie is just... People are crazy sometimes.

Re: Mass Shooting At Batman Premiere in Colorado Part 2 (WITH RULES)
Whoa, hadn't read this:
Quote:
For Miss Fonzi, there was a particularly chilling twist to last week's horrors. For at midnight on Friday, music started to blare from the apartment upstairs.
She and her boyfriend called the non-emergency police line to report the noise nuisance. But when there was no response, she went upstairs to rap on the door to ask for the music to be turned off.
"It was particularly strange as we had never heard a squeak from that apartment before," she said. "I knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
"Then I noticed that it was not properly shut and I almost opened it, but something made me stop at the last moment. I thank God I did."
For behind the door was the trip wire that was intended to blow up the apartment. Police now believe that Holmes had set the music on a timer in the hope of eliciting a complaint to police and luring officers totheir death.

Ridiculously close shave there.

Perhaps he was hoping the apartment would blow, distracting police and emergency medical response with a massive explosion while he shot up the theater.

That may be why he said something about the booby traps when they caught him - he presumed that the bombs/devices/whatever had already gone off.

As gross as it is, this sounds right. Music triggers at 12 sharp, he allows 20 minutes for all LE to respond to explosion, starts shooting up. Him (apparently?) leaving the door ajar also makes it seem like thats what he wanted.

Yep, that explains why he told the police about his traps.

If that were the case wouldn't he had used a timer for the explosives instead? I am guessing if he really thought he was the Joker(and it sounds like he does believe this) going the route he did was the more "clever" way.

I'm not really arguing. I found the violence in the last one disturbing. An apparently disturbed man who liked it showed up at its sequel and perpetrated a horrible act of violence which easily would have been at home in either movie.
I'm not saying I blame the movie. I am saying I don't think it should get an insta-reprieve from any blame. Also, I don't see how I could be misunderstanding TDK's disgusting glorification of violence.

Because it wasn't glorifying it?

Isn't that the exact plan as Breivik had?

Also the PD is pretty close to the theater. Makes sense he'd blow the apartment up so 50-100 cops show up there while he goes on his shooting spree and maybe get away.

Re: Mass Shooting At Batman Premiere in Colorado Part 2 (WITH RULES)
is the official wounded count 58 or 70? I know it doesn't matter much, but I see CNN reporting as 58 wounded, but the governor in this press conference just said 70. is there something i'm missing?

Re: Mass Shooting At Batman Premiere in Colorado Part 2 (WITH RULES)
my understanding is that it's 58 wounded plus 12 dead = 70 wounded. some places are reporting this as 70 wounded, 12 dead. which is kinda weird but whatever.

ok i thought they might have been counting the dead as well, but I guess the method varies form place to place
