Just to clarify, given that that any discussion about this tragedy is like ~90% doomed to be political, what exactly is the context in which the good people who inhabit OOT are allowed to approach the subject matter?

I must say it is odd in this day and age that nobody has found any legitimate web presence for this guy especially given his age.

I understand that the other thread was massively derailed (because of both politics and trolling). I am specifically addressing your instruction that all political discussion is prohibited and am sincerely expressing my opinon that the subject matter is extremely susceptable to politcs and therefore any attempt to prohibit this is doomed to result in mass bannage.

This whole thing is very tragic, and strange. What I don't understand is that he let himself get arrested. Isn't the SOP to commit suicide in this situation?

Jesus, when I saw part 2 in the title I thought another shooting happened. I might reword that...

If you read about spree killers I think they are split pretty evenly between suicide and giving themselves up.

It is interesting that he gave himself up and then apparently asked for a lawyer and refused to answer questions or cooperate. I feel like if they give themselves up in this type of situation its usually to get some sort of a soap box. Also strange that no big internet presence has surfaced yet.

Yeah, I meant that in more than a few of these types of situations, its hours until someone digs up rambling blog/forum posts, etc.

From everything that has been said about Holmes he hasn't shown tendencies in the past to show he was going to do this. He played Guitar Hero with friends, he was a well educated college student getting his Phd., no prior violent tendencies. What makes a 24 year old do something so heinous?

There's not really an "SOP" for these type of situations. While spree killings and assassinations are often associated with the type of personality that is also prone to suicide (or suicide by cop), it's hardly a given.

It depends far too much on the type of psychopathology, which at this point we don't really have any idea about. Other than the general view that there must be something "sick" about his mental state, because "normal" people don't randomly kill people.

Interesting how composed and focused the brother of the red headed sports journalist killed was...he was rattling off the exact names of recent spree shooters perfectly (va tech, guy from norway, etc) .

Well I dont know if the guy even has schizo it was a left field guess. In regards to side effects, they differ from case to case. When you're first declared schizo they change the doses until they find the proper amount. Some will have a couple of those side effects some wont. People make the mistake thinking people with this type of illness are lost causes and completely ******ed. Thats not the case at all. Once the right dose/medication is issued they live fairly normal lives like you and I. It's once they decide they dont need them anymore because they are 'better' the real problems begin. I sympathize with the sickness but I dont have sympathy for the people who take themselves off the drugs when they are told it is very dangerous to do so.

He may still be "in shock" of what has happened and has not even started the grieving process yet.

You are faulting people for making illogical decisions when the primary symptom of thier disease is a loss of reality.
