I think it's just feeding her current illness. She's doing healthy things but I'm not sure it's for healthy reasons. then again I'm a person who has benefited bigly from posting here, so idk. my life would be drastically different if not for the posters here.

i wholeheartedly agree with the thread lock though

I'd keep the thread open and ban the obvious problem posters. Only a matter of time before M makes some terrible posts in other OOT threads.

I feel like closing M's thread is a good decision. I mean I don't see anything positive coming out of it neither for her no for anyone else. Rexx was right, that it somehow brought out worst in people. At least for me that is true.

In Febr LC was discussion: history or how a CC do work, what is more useful for school.

I know what I would profit big way, if it would be taught in schools: communication. And I mean not instinctively, like it is automatically a little bit learned, just because you are in school. But communication for nerds: formalized, logic explanations what to say and how to say, and how it would be perceived. I am learning it, but my life would be so much better, if it would be taught in schools. Here is a vid, with few tricks I found useful:

What is the butthole, exactly?

Is it the ring of skin or the void itself?

Where on earth is this BS clickbait coming from? Does anyone else besides me see it? It shows up on several unconnected sites I frequent. WTF.

Being a native of Indianapolis and having been around the restaurant industry for a time, he is known for tipping modestly and driving the same car for a long time. If anything, that's evidence of him being the opposite of bankrupt. I don't know him, but I think he is pretty much the opposite of athletes featured in something like the 30 for 30 episode "broke" about athletes who go busto.

He's also held a job as a team coach and then executive consistently since retiring.

I made the mistake many years ago of getting into a conversation with Sam Grizzle. I found out that he had a daughter that was born within a few days of my daughter. I have occasionally wondered how our respective daughters will grow up. I suppose I am reminded of this given today's traffic about MLYLT's daughter and the general opinions around here that she is likely to be a poor mother.

Anyway, carry on. This is the LC thread.

Let me know what mother****ers are talking **** about Larry Bird, and I will deal with them with a quickness.

Going to Celtics/Lakers at Staples tonight, first NBA game in I dunno how long. Am in full Boston sports fan idiot garb. Get up feels a little incomplete because I won't be ****faced, but I'm doing what I can.

Speaking of bad parents
Quote:
Bird and his father, Joe, were best friends and fishing buddies. Joe was a Korean War veteran who worked mostly in construction and had difficulty maintaining regular employment. He drank, some speculated, to numb the trauma he had experienced during his time in the service.

On February 3, 1975, Joe Bird called his ex-wife. He had fallen behind on his child-support payments, but had a solution. He told the family they’d be better off without him. Then he put down the phone, picked up a shotgun, and ended his life.

“I sort of always felt my dad gave up on not only himself, but us kids,” says Bird. “I still had two younger brothers at home and a mom. That’s the way I looked at it then, and the way I look at it now. I handled it pretty good, I think.”
Here's a pic of Larry a couple of weeks later.

I was a basketball-obsessed slow white kid in the suburbs of Boston at exactly the moment Larry Bird rose to prominence. It would be impossible to overstate how strongly I felt, and feel about him. If you haven't seen the HBO doc "Magic & Bird", you really should. I get choked up watching it.

Magic and Bird the GOAT personal rivalry in team sports? Brady/Manning barely played each other in comparison and were never on the field at the same time. Maybe Messi/Ronaldo or Wilt/Russell are comparable.

If you throw in the intangibles of their backgrounds and eventually becoming close friends, I don't see any other rivalry coming close.
03-03-2017 , 03:23 PM
Wilt/Russell, absolutely. Not only did they play the same position but they were in CLOSE contact all throughout the game. A lot fewer teams in the league back then too, so they probably played each other a lot. They also kept in contact after retirement and were close friends up until Wilt died.

Is that a high school pic above? Bird doesn't look very tall. He was listed at 6'9" in the NBA?

The third letter printed in here is from a 13 year-old me. The actual letter I sent was three pages long and ended with me canceling my subscription. They edited it for printing.

edit: This is from Sports Illustrated.

Pig, Bird pic was from after he started college the first time and before he went back so he was between 6' 7" and 6' 9", though he was only 6' 3" until his senior year in HS.

LFS, I hope you still bought the swimsuit issue from the newsstand.

I would like to take this moment to sheepishly apologize to Kathy Ireland for the things I did to her in the 1980's in my head.

Kathy Ireland is an all-timer for sure. I met someone once who said that he did not want to ever see her naked, because that would ruin his image of her.

I thought (and still think) that was the single dumbest comment I've ever heard.

I agree mostly with the first paragraph, but the benefits she will receive there will be limited to very narrow areas. What I wonder about is how locking the thread here will play with her abandonment issues. She received a lot of good advice there but some abuse as well. I don't know what the right approach is, but I guess we will see what happens next.

I remember watching the NBA finals in the mid-late 80s as a young kid. My Dad was never a big basketball fan but I got the aura from him that we were watching something special in Bird v Magic.

From the limited amount I've read about Bird, I would be shocked if he was worth less than low 8 figs.

Completely unrelated, I am happy that we will have a 42% increase in wit and insight in the LC thread now that the MLYLT trainwreck has been closed.

Kathy Ireland is an all-time all-star and is second only to Rebecca De Mornay in the 1980's bracket. Kathy gets bonus points for using her real (!) last name but it's not quite enough. I wish there was a 2+2 Miss OOT archive from 1991.

Same from me to Laetitia Casta during her run in the Victoria's Secret catalog.
